Thunderbird Club

Not sure if this is old news or not, but I thought I’d pass along that the price for black pickguards with gold birds has dropped dramatically over the past month or so. I used to see them on eBay and Reverb for $70+ all the time. They are now in the $20-30 range. They’re still coming out of China and have a long lead time, but that’s a huge price cut! Ordered mine yesterday for my 2015 Gibby.

Good, I'm glad to hear that.

I used it today live and every time I play it it's confirmed to my ears why every other Thunderbird doesn't measure up. I don't know why it sounds better, but it just does. I could easily never use another bass. Even the VPs sound great, but not that great. The '64 just has "it," whatever "it" is. Interestingly enough, at home I have a number of basses that sound better, but none ins a live mix.

There are so many factors involved, but I agree that a T-bird of that year has a unique sound/tone. I also play other basses for specific reasons but my T-bird holds court whenever I play it. :bassist:

Nice! And a black and gold pick guard is pretty much required on a '15.

That's cool, but too bad they use the Epiphone logo and not the Gibson one.

How well do they fit? I'd hate to have to modify my Flamingo.

I didn't know there was a logo difference.

got lucky to come across a rare matched duet of yugoslavian made 6CA7s (american nomenclature for the EL-34)…..putting them through the paces (bandwidth/gain/power) in my modified Dynaco tube test bed….

I had a couple of those years ago, nice sounding power amps. Had a MK III too. I still have the PAS preamp somewhere or other.

Mine fit my Gibson 2015 Tbird perfectly, including all the screw holes. It was from China but a different eBay seller and cost about twice as much. Interested to see if the new supplier has as good a product as the old one.
