I was thinking of something with less wattage than my GK so I can drive it a bit harder - a 700RBII is insanely loud and you really can't get it to "open up" nicely at lower volume.

all possible (as you know)…..easier done on a 50 Watter than a 300…
sounds like you’re in the market for a different amp…problem with SWRs is that they sold to Fender so you would have to look for a used one….this one here is known for it’s “grit”….

Eden traveler 350 is also a great option as are other older amps such as Ashdown EVOs (500W) and earlier GKs…
your box is power hungry so the choice is tricky since you want breakup not necessarily sacrificing the power for the punch…guess a couple of good questions are;
Do you ever mic (or Di) your amp live?
Have you ever considered tubes?…

I think there’s a difference between playing into a speaker vs a resistor.
The PF50T does seem to behave differently (in a good way) when cranked up into a 4 ohm speaker load.
I usually get told to turn down with my 50 and 200 watt amps.

Good afternoon and happy Thursday to all my Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers. I hope all are well. I am curious if anyone has had any experience playing an electric bass with a bow? I have been sitting in with an "Eastern Fusion" band, and it has been interesting and challenging to say the least. They are a great group of very talented fellows. At a recent rehearsal I was working toward a sort of eerie droning note for part of one song, and the strings player suggested I try a bow. He had something called an E bow, but it didn't seem to work with my heavy strings. I keep conjuring up images from The Song Remains the Same. Seems like I would need to alter the set up to get a bit of arch at the bridge. Is this complete an exercise in futility? For the most part I am vamping in some forms of essentially minor scales I have learned. As I said, a great challenge, almost like a different language. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. That said, I was told by the drummer I play with that someties I can get a "bow-"like sound by using this set up:
With the effects pedals on and the amp just feeding back, you get an almost "infinite sustain" which allows me to move from note to note, usually sliding into and out of each note. I am not sure I hear it but that is what he says and he likes jazz, so he must be right.....
My only caveat with it is the neck pu’p
placement.
Just me gang. Was never found of any sort of pick up positioned like that.
