Thunderbird Club

One of my favorite bands as well as the other one that Dregen is in, Backyard Babies! Great Rock n Roll!

Yes, both bands put out some great songs.

did they come “re-licked”?

I had the Schechter version and it was just kind “meh”, the Gibson version looks cooler.

The finish on the red Sixx wears easier than other Birds finishes. Every one I have seen (including mine) has the stain worn off in some area. This one that is listed does not have the original mirror pickguard with it. Its an ugly pickguard, but I replaced mine with another mirror guard and kept the original for resale sake. The control layout is vol-tone-kill.

The Schecter Sixx is well made but heavy. I rarely play mine, but that has more to do with having so many other options than it does any issues with the bass.

ahh, thanks for the info, that one just became less desirable.

Both of my NR’s are right at 8.1lbs and I have no intention of going over 9lbs.

I’ll wait and see what reverses Gibson craps out in the next couple years, and vintage spec or not, I’ll get something in a non-fugly colour.

I don't think I made the weight clear. The red Sixx weighs the same as my other Gibsons at just over 8 lbs. The Schecter Sixx weighs 11 lbs.

I never weighed my Schecter, but it wasn’t noticeably heavy.

It was just so mind numbingly boring, I had to do something….

Does yours have tiger-flaming on the wings?

Wasn't somebody talking about Gold Hardware.

Looks nice - I've seen a '76 in a factory natural, but not with gold hardware and a blocked/bound fb. Is that some sort of modded '70's IV?

A side bar; I recall at one time there was a debate about gen1 T-birds not having a 'horn' strap-peg - only the one at the heal. I contend they came with both since '63 as my '63 II had both, as does my '64 II and every other one I've ever seen. I removed mine as it wasn't being used (still have all 3 - replaced with Dunlop Strap-Lok pegs) Not to say there is a rare case of no peg at the upper 'horn' - but it would be the exception to the rule.

Back when I was in my HS 'combo' my Heathkit solid-state amp was in the shop and I borrowed a '60s B18 flip-top from a friend for a gig. It was my first exposure to a tube amp. I still can see that glowing clear AMPEG lucite plate! My '76N doesn't have one but otherwise it's the real deal. I replaced the 15" Eminence driver in the ported cab with a late '60s JBL D130R and the tone went from great, to heaven! FTR, the 'R' stands for Rogers who used them in their organs. They were also marked 'F' for Fender, or just D130.

I put a D-140 in my S, don't remember if it's an F, R or what, it was reconed. Big difference. My S is a '78 or at least the speaker was (is, still got it)

If that were my bass, I'd 86 that finish to showcase the tiger-flaming on the wings - and I'd install a tone pot.... :bag: :)

A one - off made for The Scorpions bassist who evidently didn't like it, it belongs to Uwe.

It was pretty dramatic difference as soon as I played through it - just more flavorful/chocolatey/richer. And a bit darker, which suits me as my basses are mid-rangy - the perfect mix for my ears!

When I bought that brand new one I had it in my kitchen with one of those little Advent 400 mono tuners and a horn tweeter on top, it sounded like a hifi, nothing I played in back then was ever soft enough for it :D so it did double duty. I had a 60's B-15N at one time too but like the 70's better. I've always used SVT's but like the little amps at home for obvious reasons. The JBL sounds louder and more clear to me in mine, better able to handle the 60 watt head too. I've used the S and the B-18 at blues jams here and there. I only bought the B-18 just to have one. It's got an original British Goodman's 16 ohm 18" in it, very nice sounding speaker with a lot of top end for an 18".

can’t say enough about this combo…..killed it last night….don’t care what anyone says but there really is no replacement for a Class AB bass amp output stage. the EVO is rated at 550 Watt RMS at 4 Ohm and the MB NY 2x12 rated at 800 Watt at 4 Ohm as well so from a handling perspective, no issue. what works is that the neo speakers are of relatively low efficiency which means you hammer them pretty hard. the only advantage in using the Little Markbass 800 is an almost 20 lb difference I can live with….Class D just doesn’t cut it for the massive lows imho…

Like I didn't want one enough already....;):roflmao:

I'm not real familiar with her, she sounds pretty good though.
I had few morals when I saw her and thought it was just foolish. It was really weird. Shock value, drunk or pretending to be drunk. Who knows. That was the only thing anyone remembered about her set, which should be a fail for a singer.

I put Mike Lull pickups on my 2018.
That was a good move that fixed half of the problem with the modern Thunderbirds from my history of having a 60s version for decades. Just can't get that glorious type sound out of my head. The Vintage Pros are really close. Thus the reason of owning tow of them.

And thanks to you - it works perfectly! I think of you every time I plug in! For those here, it's a long story, but just know that Chucky is a stone-cold P-R-O when it comes to amps. Word brother! :bassist:
