Thunderbird Club

here's a fun one... I already blocked the OP...

Your 2015 Epiphone Thunderbird Classic IV Pro might be a rebadged 2014 Gibson.

not sure if they shipped the fully finished gibsons overseas then painted them with poly, or for sure how the delusion goes... the op got panties twisted pretty quickly....

I didn't read the thread (at work; my break isn't that long :meh: ), but thought I might add something here, some info I found out while (re)building my Classic Pro.

Possibly the quickest way to tell between an Epiphone Classic Pro and a Gibson, based on parts info (I have no Gibson to independently verify), is the string nut.

Gibson allegedly uses 3/16" thickness, while Epiphones (all of the ones I have are this way, including the Classic Pro) use 1/4" thickness.

Was scrolling through old note drafts i had going on, & stumbled upon what i had for the collective thunderbird idea.

Which got me thinking about it again. & so i'll try to make this easy to pin point certain aspects of it throughout a voting. Quote this post to input your vote (itll help if im notified to keep track xD)

Let the polling begin!

Body style: Traditional, or NR

Body type: flat, or raised mid section

Construction: Bolt on, set neck, neck through

Number of pickups: 1, 2, 3

Type of pickup: thunderbird traditional, other (be it split p, j, mm style, or any other type of pickup)

Hardware color: nickel, chrome, black, gold.

Guard: definitive, none, or optional.

Colour: personal preference, however i'd like to hear.

Thanks for chiming in :)
I can’t make up my mind on any of your questions except for color. Pelham Blue all the way.

ok so reading your thread, and the other fellers, I am now totally convinced that mine is a genuine Gibstone!

I kinda almost feel bad for being a dick in the other thread…

I'm a couple of days behind (a few hundred posts)

I had my final surgery follow up with the surgeon today. There will be many more appointments with the surgeon as continuing maintenance occurs; gotta replace those worn out components or I will just quit working in the left lane one day.

Things continue to improve. Strength is not fully there yet and may still take 6-12 months to come back. Endurance is coming back. We had an intersting discussion about plasticity today. She has never seen someone relearn a muscle as quickly as I got my thumb working*. But I still struggle a little with index finger; I have to think about my middle finger to make it work. It will take some time.

* I had some tendon translocations, so my thumb is now under control of a different muscle and my index finger is twinned to my middle finger.
I knew it was very involved from what you mentioned before, but my goodness, this is quite the recovery process. I'm glad it's going a little better than expected. By twinned, are you saying they just share muscle or nerve resources or that they will function together and not apart from one another?

It's your choice in footwear that should be a matter of conscience for you. But I guess I can't complain after all the grief about not using any footwear.

He’s back folks!

where did I go?

I’m not sure if I’m ready to start the defret on my NR yet. It doesn’t take too long, but it’s a lot of precise concentrated work and attention to detail…

I have a refinish on a 4004 Ric I have planned but it’s too cold to actually paint and I don’t want to disassemble until I can paint.

I got a bridge I need to replace on my sg treble geetar, but I have to fill the offset holes of the tuna-matic bridge and redrill straight holes for the 70’s schaller harmonica bridge, then I need to cut a new pickguard and control panel.

maybe I’ll just mindlessly thump away on some 12 bar blooze for an hour or so, while watching boba fett….

Nah. Gotta watch Boba Fett

I’ve been “wrenching” on the bass in the mornings before work. But almost ready for poly. I hate doing finish work in the winter. Too much air circulation with dust bunnies
