Thunderbird Club

What we see is holes in laws as a result of lawmakers' inability to see the future.

In making products that are "bad for you" attractive to minors, I question whether it should be illegal to produce them, although I certainly think it is immoral, because the government can't be the arbiter of morality. I support freedom in all forms including the right of an adult to choose what they put into their body (and the accompanying responsibility for the result of those choices).

But parents need to protect their children. I don't think parents should be outsourcing the raising and protection of their children to the state by expecting laws and regulations to be a broad shield. But having said that, ID laws around purchasing a wide variety of products is a reasonable intervention on the part of the state.

I get all of that - but I see how parents don't protect their children in the same ways that dog owners don't train their dogs. BTW, I consider dogs (vital living beings) the same as children - if someone isn't a responsible person they shouldn't have either. (no governing rule/regulation on that) Unfortunately profit-driven (yes, I agree - immoral) corporations could give a rats ass about being responsible - hence, the necessity of safeguard governmental regulations. I completely understand and agree that there are currently so many broken parts of what could be a workable way of living "in the free world" in our country. (and it will only get worse in todays world)

Congrats Thump. That is quite the score! If someone else hasn’t posted the source for the black guards by the time I’ve caught up, I’ll try to find the link. They were scarce for awhile once the pandemic hit, but I recall someone noted they’re available again.

Thanks all, it is a nice bass, tuners are smooth as are the pots. Very responsive tone pot. As ya'll know, the CP has a strong but distinct bass tone, and can get a nice dub tone; the bridge PUP has a nice thing going as well. However, there's no growl to speak of. It's early on evaluation, but I might have a series/parallel switch installed to help get midrange and attitude when needed. If that doesn't do it, I have some Probuckers to try, not sure, I haven't really been impressed with their growl either. It weighs in at 9 lbs, with some very nice figuring for mahogany. .

Pickguard Planet has black pickguards made for Chinese CPs for $44+, but no logos, I'm sure decals are easy to find.

Okay,
A little announcement for the club.

We will have a Get Together July 2 and 3, 2022 in Santa Cruz CA., I will be there with my husband for both days.
Plans for the event are still coming into focus but the thought would be to have a meet up at a restaurant in Santa Cruz and enjoy adult beverages, food and lots of conversation. At some point, possibly the next day we can likely visit the home of @Chucky Stiletti as he's nearby and we could enjoy Thunderbird basses and make some noise as well.
The guest list includes @JJR58 who will be jet setting in from the East Coast, we'll need to let him know how the West Coast throws a Thunderbird Club Get Together.

TLDR; Thunderbird Club get together 7/2,7/3 2022 in Santa Cruz, CA. more details to follow.

My latest main-squeeze (may have pre-posted, but not since doing some up-grades) - a Grass Roots by ESP G-T-64B. ("Bass IV") It was a cost performance model of the L'Arc ~ en ~ Ciel TETSUYA signature model released in the late 90's only in Japan. Who knows when mine was made (no indication of production date) but it was a Japanese (non-import) model based on the early '60s Fender VI. Relatively light-weight basswood body (an underrated tone-wood) and some cheap parts I've since up-graded - resulting in a killer bass with loads of tonal diversity. And in a cool shade of Feista red sparkle.
