Thunderbird Club

Per an NPR piece a few weeks ago, most of what comes from illegitimate sources is Fentanyl sold as other narcotics. That is the current cause of the OD epidemic right now.
There is a good reason for that; fentanyl is actually really easy to synthesize. It is dirt cheap to manufacture. The only thing that makes it more dangerous than other opioids is the difference in kinetics. It has a very rapid onset of activity, meaning that by the time you realize you have taken too much, you are very quickly on your way to unconscious and unable to do anything about it.

That’s kinda the plan. Either I buy a beat up Goth for under $200 and add the two spare pups I already have or I buy two spare pups and a fresh $100 NR body blank to mate up with a spare neck and hardware I already have. Either way, it’ll be a four pup beast. I might even wire it up to a stereo jack with two of the pups on the left channel and two on the right. The reason for the Goth pups is that I already know the secret sauce for tone on those, it’s all about ripping out the stock .068 tone cap and replacing it with a .022 cap (night and day difference).

That is what the NPR story said. Apparently there are a lot of “labs” here and south of the border churning that stuff out.

My Doc mentioned that as well. Most of it comes from one place and through another.... I'm glad that when I was into such activities you had some confidence in what you were getting. It was "safer" to be stupid back then. Glad those days are long behind.

I believe that much is coming in from China. But I have no hard evidence for any source countries/areas. Source countries are likely those in which acquiring the chemicals legally or illegally is easy and leaves no breadcrumbs and there is corruption of officials to allow moving of goods and establishment of manufacturing facilities. The Economist is a good place to start looking for countries that fit the bill.

I think if one said most they would have a 90% chance of being 100% correct.

Played the '55 today in my quest to get it sounding better. I must say that with some EQing and Fender Flats I was pleased. The change I seemed to like best was leaving the head alone and dialing back the what is called the "Low Contour" on the BBE Sonic Stomp and boost slightly what is called "Process" on it. On the bass the tone was about half open, maybe. I ended up achieving a big sound that wasn't mushy. Not punchy by any means, but a nice big low end for everything to sit in and on. A little more punch might be nice, but I was happy with the tone while playing and wasn't thinking about what I need to adjust between songs. For a little more punch I might try some TIs I have in the box. They tend to not be massive in lows and likely have more mids than any flat. But is it the right mid? We'll see. But I am happy enough with the Fenders if something doesn't come through doing something better.

I really like to not do much EQing and prefer to set my head mostly flat and slightly boost some lows and mids. I have been running most basses wide open on the treble the last 10 years, but I'm thinking that is not for me with this bass. Flats sound thicker (even across the spectrum) to me than rounds, so that may what I need to keep on this bass. Thanks to Bob and Chuck for the encouragement to keep at it and get this great bass sounding good. I think I'm on the right path. I sure love playing it.

I hate to say it but EBCFs might sound good if I were to cut even more of the highs. But I have this condition...

Hold my beer....

Well now... At least the myths live....
I fixed my Tbird some more (we do a little trolling)
Wasn't sure of the seriousness at first. Still could be a joke. Maybe it is either way. It's his bass and I could care less what he did to it. I've never played one of those. Possibly the worst playing Thunderbird ever for all I know.

I really, really had to exercise some self control to not post in that thread - Ugh!

I was thinking about that. Even if I wanted to start doing drugs again, I wouldn't have a clue where a safe place would be to look.
