Ti Jazz Rounds

I'm trying to find the right set of strings for my Spector. So far I've used Dean Markley Blue Steels and D'addario Pro Steels. I'm looking for a set that is low tension, good for detuning down to D standard, is really bright and would keep it's brightness for a loooooooong time (that's probably the most important thing for me at the moment). Would the Jazz Rounds be the best strings for all of these? If not, what is?

Any and all help is appreciated.



P.S. Yeah I know I should go out and try strings to see what I like, it's all personnal preference, bla bla bla. But I'm not gonna go out and blow £40 on a set of strings without having a little idea what they're like first.

I think just about any set would be low tension tuned down a full step. A set that's already low tension - like, oh I don't know, say TI Jazz Rounds for instance - might just be downright floppy. They also have a reputation for not being overly bright, but they do reportedly keep what brightness the have for quite a while. Anyhow, I've never used these strings personally, so this information is worth about what you paid for it.

TI Jazz Rounds aren't as low tension as the Jazz Flats, but are a bit floppier the most other rounds. The rest is true. I've a set that's been good for a couple years, no real change in sound.

Try the TI powerrounds. Bright zingy and good tension right where a good round should be. I have a set on my P bass and they feel and play awsome.

Just installed my first set of Jazz rounds a few days ago. I usually use TI flats or DR Sunbeams, and like each of those quite a bit (I also dig the R. Cocco nickels). The Jazz Rounds seem to have more tension than the Sunbeams, but they have some killer pitch integrity on a 34" 5-string - the B string is speaking with clarity and power that is really getting my attention. Unfortunately, not so happy on the G-string, where I miss that friendly Sunbeam flex. But these are clearly strings to be reckoned with, and I look forward to seeing how they work out over time.

I like DR Lowriders with Spectors and EMG's..just my .02. I had a Spector 5 string, spent a lot of money on strings. To me DR LR's were the best sounding for that bass.

The Jazz Rounds have less tension than the flats actually. They last a long time, but they aren't as bright as most strings. Probably not the best for downtuning either, but that depends on how low you like your tension and what your playing style is. Maybe the TI Powerbass strings would be a better choice? Or DR HiBeams would be another good one. Both are low tension, but not too low. And nice and bright with long-lasting tone.

That's not my experience; the Rounds seemed much stiffer than the flat. but YRMV.

According to the TI site, the Flats have significantly higher tension than the rounds (which is to be expected since they are also thicker). Of course if you use the JR364 (which for some reason use larger gauges than the 34" scale ones) instead of the JR344 strings they might be higher tension.

TI Powerbass are really average tension strings. I played them for years downtuned half a step and they weren't what I call low tension. If you want the low tension of Jazz Rounds but when tuned down I would suggest getting Superalloys. Slightly darker than the Powerbass (very similar to the Jazz Rounds) and the tension lies between the Powerbass and Rounds.
