Tide Pod Generation Band Names

^ This. There are @$$holes and slackers in every generation going back to time immemorial. Of course, on the flip-side, there have been and will continue to be visionaries, leaders and artists in every generation.

I'll say this, I have three children ages 4, 12 and 19 (two girls and a boy, respectively) and they're all great kids. I believe they'll all end up becoming upstanding citizens (and hopefully avoid eating Tide pods along the way).

Another example that gives me hope is a young band called "The Warning" that consists of three teenage sisters from Mexico. They are only 13, 16 and 18 (the bassist is the 13 yr old and totally rocks!). Last night they just played the first of two stadium shows opening for The Killers in their hometown of Monterrey. They are keeping the rock flame alive all while being down to earth and humble. Three very talented and motivated post-millennials. So there!

A bit of sample bias for sure, but hey, this being the Interwebs and all. :D

That is a good point. As a parent I try all the time to remember that stuff but understanding isn't tacit approval. It's very complex. I'm sure you have looked back at some things you did or thought and wished you'd have listened to a parent or someone whom you thought were full of spit at the time. Just curious. Are you a parent? As a side note, it's a little hypocritical to use the term "old farts" if you're grousing about them complaining about "young punks" or some other derogatory term.

Even if we accept this premise (which I don't--I'm not on FB, but I've seen plenty of it through my wife and others), politics is banned on TB.

37 reported poisonings from it by Washington post, so unfortunately I'm going to guess many more ate them and didnt get poisoned.

Did you have a specific dad band generation in mind (Baby boomer, gen-x, gen-y, millennials)? The older millennials are over 30 putting them in dad band range. Depending on which generation you're speaking of, they may have benefitted from all, some, or none of these things. My understanding is the "tide pod" generation is gen-z/igen (birth years 1995-2012 putting them age 6-23). Regardless, I fail to see what information you introduced that would preclude any particular generation's stereotypical behavior from being the target of humor.

I suppose my post above is just as unfunny as yours. I'll strive to do better next time.

According to the Urban Dictionary, "Generation Tide Pod" IS a thing ...

Generation Tide Pod
People born after the turn of the 21st century, or slightly before. These people have, for a variety of reasons, concluded that it is a good idea to eat laundry detergent.
That buzzfeed piece was written by a member of generation Tide Pod.

Although the easily triggered might be more comfortable with Wikipedia's name for that particular demographic:
"Generation Z or Gen Z (also known as iGeneration or iGen and Post-Millennials)[1] is the demographic cohort after Invalid Link Removed. Currently, there are numerous additional competing names used in connection with them in the media. There are no precise dates for when this cohort starts or ends, but demographers and researchers typically use the late 1990s to mid-2000s as starting birth years. At the present time, there is little consensus regarding ending birth years.
Most of Generation Z have used the Invalid Link Removed since a young age, and they are generally comfortable with technology and with interacting on social media."

Yeah, the Urban Dictionary isn't exactly the final word on, well, anything. But it's a somewhat reliable source for tracking down the words/phrases/trends floating around the culture. Point being that "Tide Pod Generation" isn't something just fabricated here on Talkbass.

For the record, "Dadrock" is in the urban dictionary, too. Made me chuckle. If we can't joke about ourselves and each other, then ... the terrorists win! :) (For those sensitive to that reference: JK! JK!)
