Time for a stool!

I gave my stool to my Proctologist (not pictured)

Seriousness aside, hanging a 9 lb bass around my neck for 3 sets kills my lower back. I often need to bend over and crack my vertebrae and I'm fine for another 30 minutes.. People think I'm bowing like the Beatles after songs. I'm 4 yrs younger than McCartney ;)

I have an inversion table I swapped my brother a guitar for. After some nights of standing plus load out I can barely get around.

I get on that table and flip back(practically upside down) about 10 minutes and it really helps. I can move around much better.

I bought one of these on sale at walmart for under 10 bucks... ( I think they're under 15 usually.) They fold... can carry them with a bunch of other stuff and aren't so comfortable that I feel the need to plant my butt for too long, but if I need a verse or two to take a load off... it works fine.

That looks sweet.

Here's a product link for anyone interested:

If I used an Inversion table and flipped back up I would pass out .. but that's just me ;)

Actually going back to where its just slightly inclined works, it just takes longer. Further back is the best though.
It was a little weird the first few times I tried it but I goes back slowly and now its easy.

I’ve been stuck on a stool since early 2000’s. There was only 1 band that hated it. Most don’t mind. I usually just grabbed a bar stool or waited till one became available.
The best seats are where your upper leg is parallel to the ground so the bass doesn’t want to slip off your leg. A fix for that is most any kind of rubber either attached the the bass or just resting on your leg.

You travel with that?

I do. Our band has always performed seated (it's an a/e Beatles band,) so it's not out of place. We perform all throughout southern California so it's all drive time (no fly dates.)

I'm a hefty guy with an ample arse, so the Soundseat works well for me.

I'd need a 4005 to cover my belly. ;)
I need to get the Ric action lowered again and Chris from "Pick of the Rics" is closing at the end of the month after 20 years.. He agreed to set it up one more time when he gets back from Florida.. Guess I'll have to learn to do it myself.

I played a four-hour gig last night, and by the end of the night my legs were killing me. Add to this the load-out where I'm not only loading my gear but also helping my other bandmates as well. I think it's time for a stool to sit on when we play long gigs. These four-hour long gigs are hard on an old man!

there's nothing wrong with sitting down on a gig and I like to think one can do so and still look interested and aware of their surroundings.

Pretty sure I saw Jimi Herring sit cross legged on the stage during a Phil & Friends show at the tower theatre many years ago...

Sadly a lot of bar bands suffer from rock star/showmanship syndrome and frown upon sitting down. Even at rehearsals I've had people look at me funny for sitting down and playing. I really just don't get what the big dealyo is.

I sit when I can because at times you get slammed in a corner and I won't be hitting the drummer's f'n pang or the back of the guitar players head with my headstock 'cause I'm standing. That way the drummer has a footprint, I have a footprint and the guitar player with his pedalboard with the 236 pedals on it has a footprint.

Sorry if I insulted all you guitar players on this site (and there's lot's of them)

It's a great seat, I may get one for home. It seems like it would be a challenge to move over a collapsible one.
Glad you found something that works!

But, but, but ... there's only 7 of ya's!
HA! You noticed!
Yep, we made a change for the better in late 2016. Our story now is that the audience is the 8th member, and we're sticking to it.

No doubt it's better for home, and it's very comfortable. They advertise that it's portable, but notsomuch in reality. Because of my height (or lack of it,) I did not need the optional footrest. I do not dismantle the seat at all when transporting.

I used one of these for years. View attachment 3736425
I have the Roc n Soc drum stool I keep in my trunk and play with, but this Bar Stool type is KILLER !!! I'm buying one. My guitar player is a carpenter and offered to get together and design a folding, strong (I weigh 375) stage stool like Jack Bruce's in the sense that it looks like I'm standing, but I'm sitting. I have a blown out left knee. I used to be fine when I was 100 lbs lighter. Most bands' bass players around here sit anyway, so I actually fit in, but that's just luck. But like IamGroot said, other than the rock bands we grew up with, where does it say we have to stand ? Since the drummer sits, and we are part of the rhythm section, it looks acceptable, too. But, my drummer specifically stated that me sitting MAY lower the stage energy we try to portray and I totally get that.
