I could just try it but I imagine myself sitting on my livingroom floor repeatedly and obsessively swapping strings and plucking them trying to determine which combination is the most balanced and not being able to tell and eventually I'll have ruined two sets of strings.

I called Dunlop and got a guy on the phone who didn't seem to understand the concept of string tension. I told him what I was doing and why I wanted to know.....that I had a 40-100 set and a 45-105 set and I wanted to know specific tension figures and his response was "well I can tell you what gauge they are."

Or maybe the Dunlop employee only knows what he can read off the string packaging or on the web. Dunlop sell lots of diverse products and the guy was probably just a call centre generalist. Somebody at Dunlop should be able to share this info though. Not like you are trying to get KFC's secret spice blend or anything.

I've had super brights on my Warwick Corvette for about a month now. I think they compare favorably to Roto 66's and once broken in they feel and sound pretty similar on my bass. I think the Dunlops wear in a little easier and didn't seem to have the rough texture typical of 66's. The only downside is that the strings seems to twist a little easier than 66's which isn't a huge deal. I use the super light gauge .40 - .95 and primarily play jazz (swing, modern, latin) in a duo or trio setting.

For that level of knowledge they might have to raise their price. Those strings are so cheap.

Update- These days I'm only a bassment bassist; I haven't gigged since New Year's 2015. I've had Dunlop SB Nickels 40-100 on my Schecter Raiden Special-4 (passive, VVT dual pickup bass with humbucker/single coil switching) for about a month and a half. These strings a really great. They feel lovely under my fingers and the tone is just fantastic. I couldn't be happier!

I ordered two sets of the Nickels and one of the SS 40-100. I'm still waiting for GC to ship my second set of Nickels but I'm in no hurry. Once I decide the current set is dead enough I'll try the Steels, then go back to the Nickels. Historically I haven't loved SS rounds but I'm pretty open-minded.

Keep on rockin, Dunlop!

I've been playing a set of nickels, 40-100, and almost love them. They're a bit to flexible for me. They do sound as great as everyone has said though! Clear and crisp with plenty of bottom to them.

I also have a set of SS 45-105s to try after these. I'm expecting to find the flexibility more to my liking but I'm in no rush....I may get used to the lighter gauge that's on now.

Finally had a chance to put a set of the Stainless on my Benavente for a gig Wednesday. At rehearsal last night they sounded great. Very clear and the tension wasn't a problem because I have that bass set up pretty low and can't play very dynamically anyway. Only thing I didn't like, and this maybe stainless in general, that there were not enough mid range. So I'm looking forward to playing the nickle sets on this bass too when they need changing. I bought enough sets to try out nickle and steel on each of my bases. I wish they would fit my Fodera!

Yeah you'll find the nickels have a nice crisp midrange bite.
