TM Stevens was just my roadie.

...so, I've been doing a bunch of shows the past year or so with a guy who played guitar in the Leslie West Band. We played a fairly well known place in NJ tonight, The Brighton Bar.

As soon as we start playing I notice this dude that looks just like TM Stevens (a bit dressed down though), standing in front of the stage to the left of me, digging the music. I'm pretty certain it's him, but wonder what the hell he'd be doing in this Jersey bar. In between songs the guitar guy starts talking to him, and I realize OK, it's not TM... it's a friend of this guy. The TM looking guy stays for the whole set, and I see for a good portion of the time he's focused on me, smiling, and miming bass stuff every now and then... which leads me to believe he's a bass player. Who's obviously copping the TM look.

We finish, and have to hurry off the stage, as usual. Drummer asked if I could give him a hand, which I said sure to and grabbed a cymbal. As I'm getting off the stage the TM looking dude asks if we need any help. I hestitate, and he says, "YES, I CAN TELL YOU DO!!" and jumps on the stage. I say thanks, and he starts grabbing stuff. As I'm hopping back onto the stage I hear him introduce himself to someone... "my name is TM". I spun aound, looked at him and said "SHeiiit!!!! You are who I thought you were!!!!" He smiled and said, Yes I am, let me help you with your amp dude. And he did.

He was there to see the guys playing after us (he plays in another band with them), but knew the guy I was playing with cuz TM also played with Leslie West. Which I didn't know.

Anyhow, he was a super cool and friendly dude. I talked with him a little, but I hate the club scene and yelling over music... so I bolted pretty quickly. I told him I was gonna post here that he roadied for me, and he loved it. Told me too that he's playing there (The Brighton Bar) on Dec. 8th with Vanilla Fudge. If I don't have a gig, I'll be there too. Never saw him perform.

Got a crappy cellphone pic, but too tired to upload right now. Was a fun night. Just thought I'd share it.

TM is a super nice guy, and a fixture on the Jersey shore. He lives in Long Branch, so the Brighton Bar is a home gig for him.

Wow. Very cool story. And a memory lane trip for me.

I grew up in Long Branch, used to hang at the Brighton Bar in the 70s. Was playing in a band called Sweet Poison back then. The Brighton Bar didn't have live music at the time, but we worked at another joint (name escapes me...) at the corner of 2nd and Brighton, just up the block.

I admit I didn't know who he was, had to do the Google. Holy Crap! How did I NOT know this guy?! His bio is incredible.

That's such a cool story that he watched you guys play, hung out, and jumped up to help you guys pack your gear. Sounds like a really good guy. Thanks for the story!

the most amazing part of this story to me is where the op refers to the brighton as a well known place in nj! hang around long branch enough and you'll see tm, bon jovi and bruce and the rest of the e streeters too.i remember before the e street band got back together, and before the sopranos, i used to see little steven van zandt hanging with his face in his beer in the back room of cheers alot.

My photo proof that TM was my roadie for a night.

I really did actually appreciate that. He didn't have to help. While people have offered at other times to help clear a stage, it's not what I'd call a common occurance.
