To Me, Fender Is.......

To me fender is inconsistency. Some fenders I've played have been absolutely terrible. But, a few have been some of the best basses I've ever played. A lot of the custom shop basses I've played have been incredible.
.....Fender is what people play when they don't don't want to be unique, and want to sound like everyone else.

I had the good opportunity to play a Rosco and fresh Pbass just yesterday!
Love me some Pbasses,...but with the extra scratch would love me some Rosco too!!!
Fender for me is "the standard",... I grew up listening to Motown outside of Motown in the 60/70's... Current arsenal is 3 P's, a couple P/J Frankenfenders, and a Jazz,.. I drive a Ford, bought my first Apple a couple years ago,...and love my early '90's made in USA Webber grill...
For me, Fenders are like "home" and have obviously done something right to be where they are...

so many opinions and viewpoints here are providing by users who seem to lurk just to bash. i have a MIA Pbass and a MIA jazz, and both are incredible instruments, and in years past when i could only afford the MIM fenders i had a few of them, not as nice, and not at all impressive. owned a Marcus Miller for a few years and that was very nice too. i guess IMO you get what you pay for. and i love my 2012 MIA Fenders, i dont care what anyone says about them.
Roscoe gets mentioned, out of all other makers, why?

Owned one for almost a year...lovely tone, but I only played it a few times...just didn't like it...But I'm a well known heretic, and likely to come to a bad end...

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought this thread was what Fenders are to us, you know, an opinion. I didn't realize that not being a big fan of Fender was the wrong opinion to have, so step back, bow down to Leo, and go enjoy what to enjoy. I have shared my thoughts, how about you share yours without trying to bash other's opinions.
Really, I'm not surprised as it is par for the course for Fender devotees.
Love my SG500 tooI'm yet to play any bass by any manufacterer that is perfect from factory.
For instance I have never played any fretted bass that didn't have the frets sticking out a bit further than a luthier would have them.
I have two electric basses right now, an Ibanez soundgear and a Fender Highway One. For $550 Ibanez gives you a thinner smoother neck that is five piece wenge/bubinga, bartolini pickups, three band active eq, a mahogony body, all in a bass that is roughly five pounds. For $1000 bucks Fender will give you a slab of wood, a cheap bridge and some cheap passive pickups that they know you are going to replace as soon as you get it home.
That being said a Fender Jazz was the first bass I bought and I don't intend on ever being without one. I know there has been plenty of inovations since Leo invented it but sometimes you want to play the original, the classic, and that is what Fender is for, when you want to play a Fender.
I've played some great,good,ok and bad Fenders just like all brands but Fender dose hold it's value better than most!
