Haha. You ARE the guy who threw his TV off the balcony!
You betcha, bub. It was me. It's like somehow you are some wizened mage who can make these amazing true assumptions on an internet forum about people you don't know or have never met. Simply incredible! And to think I just ASSUMED you were just some guy who got his kicks by constantly goading people online.

My hats off to you sir!

Today I pulled out my beloved jazz bass of which I have many and decided to take the neck off and put in a shim. I cut the shim installed the shim and when I went to put the neck back on a chuck of the finish came off near the neck pocket. I am heart broken :( at least the rest of the songs will be easier right. I can't even find the piece to re glue it back in place. All is lost. Jesus I'm ready to go.
Just curious, why did you install a shim?

Bummer! Tell you what... next time a piece of the badly checked finish on my Jazz peels off, I'll save it and send it to you

I know... the first chip or ding on a pristine instrument always hurts... close your eyes and play, enjoy how it sounds and feels in your hands. That's worked for me for, well, a long time now....

Hahaha!!!!! Love it!

I thought you already knew/assumed the answer to that one?!

And for the record, I never said the OP didn't install a shim for the wrong reason. In fact, I never even gave ANY reason he installed it, I was just stating the facts about what the OP wrote and he did JUST in fact say he "decided to" install a shim, and NEVER said that it in fact needed it. You're reply mentioning that the only reason he'd do it was because it must have needed it is a pretty darn gullible statement since people around these parts are ALWAYS doing stuff to their basses that dont NEED to be done and I was making a joke and as a result you blew your flipping' gasket and started mouthing off about semantics and freaking the heck out! Made for a good chuckle though, so thanks for that!

A little bit of advice, but you shouldn't take everything on the internet literally, otherwise I picture you getting so worked up at some point that you'll blow a gasket in your noggin and stroke out right in front of your computer one day, and believe me buddy, that's NOT good for your health.

As I recall you posted a picture of a snowflake in response to the OP. So I'm not quite sure where you come from with your posts, it doesn't seem to be humorous just trollish. What's really funny as I've been responding to you I have been LMFAO.

Obviously we've derailed the thread long enough and I'm sure we've both come off as a couple of jerks to the rest of the forum.

With that I'll exit the thread and retain what little dignity I have left. Enjoy your evening and keep up the great work you do here @Vinnie Boombatz .

Haha! You see, it doesn't work that way. You are not leaving this thread with any dignity. You didnt enter it with dignity and you're just as bad as me, and I'll be the first one to say I have no cooth, and you my friend are just as bad, albeit wrapped just a tad to tight!

If you want something pretty to look at hang it on the wall, some of the best sounding and playing jazz basses I've ever had the pleasure to play looked liked they got drag behind a truck on a gravel road, a chip is a minor piffle, don't sweat it.

That's the point, a finish chip caused by the owner's carelessness is definitely not a problem.

Definitely not a problem for the person not knowing where there next meal is coming from...

... but it may be a problem, for those more fortunate... as I said before, all about perspective...

'The Larger Bowl', RUSH

If we're so much the same like I always hear
Why such different fortunes and fates?
Some of us live in a cloud of fear
Some live behind iron gates

Why such different fortunes and fates?
Some are blessed and some are cursed
Some live behind iron gates
While others see only the worst

Some are blessed and some are cursed
The golden one or scarred from birth
While others only see the worst
Such a lot of pain on the earth

The golden one or scarred from birth
Somethings can never be changed
Such a lot of pain on this earth
It's somehow so badly arranged

Somethings can never be changed
Some reasons will never come clear
It's somehow so badly arranged
If we're so much the same like I always hear

Some are blessed and some are cursed
The golden one or scarred from birth
While others only see the worst
Such a lot of pain on the earth

Some are blessed and some are cursed

It's super easy to tell you to not worry about when it's not my bass.
So yeah man don't worry about it. Mojo and all that, right?

Sorry to hear about the chip. That stinks! If you don't mind me asking, what we're you trying to fix with the shim? Was there some string buzz?
