Tool tone/FX sticky thread ver. 1

I have spent the last 11 years slowly acquiring all of this gear. So i didnt hurt the "pocket book" too bad at all.....and the well placed Heil mic(s) of the cab(s) makes a huge difference IMO
:bassist::hyper::bassist:

I'm sure it was an arduous process indeed. What do you mean "Heli" mic? I've been wanting to mic my cab more times than not but most times, around here, the sound guy won't/doesn't want to do it. So I am skittish about investing in a decent one to mic my cab live. I'm more along the lines of wanting a good DI that will go between my amp and cab in the back so it actually grabs most of my WHOLE rig than just my board. Hopefully one day. But then I still need/want an LPF so my dirt doesn't sound like a can of bees.

Heil PR40 mics are what JC uses on his cabs. They are also an amazing studio mic for cabs/kick drum or vocals. They sell for around the $300 mark.
My dirt would totally sound like a can of bees without the modded Rat and the Boss eq after it.

Thank you!

Appreciated much. :)

Justin is among my top 5 favorite bass players, and Tool probably one of my top 10 favorite bands as well.

The Tech 21 Sansamp GT-2 (or the Behringer clone GDI21) has some amazing dirt tone in it used for bass, and without much, if any, low end loss.

Here's a demo demonstrating just that from YouTube in case anyone is interested:

Tool is not the only stuff that JC plays. He does side projects, guest appearance etc too. Now that Tool is "done" (Only a hunch by me ;)) ........... I wouldnt be surprised if M.T Void releases some new stuff in the near future. He likes/plays p basses too. I would pretty much bet one of my Wal basses, that we wont see another Tool album, nevermind an appearance of something other than a Wal on a Tool song.
This is from Sept of last year.

He did a video recently (might be posted here) playing through some parts of Aenima using a Warwick.
Maybe it was just a random bass that he was given for the video and wasn't up to his specs, but the classic Tool tone just wasn't there.

I'll wait until we get more info, but his Wal sound is IMO some of the best and most unique rock bass tones of our age. Shame that it might be going away

It just makes me wonder how the new bass and pickups sound, if they were designed to capture "his tone" while he's simultaneously ditching the Wal basses/pickups that are the foundation of his classic tone

I still don't get where he said he's ditching Wal. Unless I missed that.....

I will definitely be getting this pup though. May not be soon, but I'll be getting one eventually. It's like a perfect match for my ATK.

Here's an article about the bass
Justin Chancellor’s New Warwick Custom Shop Masterbuilt Bass

I haven't read anything about ditching Wal, but when you've essentially been playing the same Wal bass for almost 25 years and then suddenly have a custom Warwick built with custom pickups and do some promo videos with Warwick, one can't be blamed for assuming he's making a switch
