Tool tone/FX sticky thread ver. 1

I can't remember how long ago I saved this pic (maybe a year or less) So I assumed that JC had switched from his long time white Clayton Eagle 1.0mm picks.
Dunlop has a specific artist series in their product section, but don't list him, or even the pick in the picture as a product they make.

I wish they'd release those. I was using the Claytons for a while then recently switched to Dunlops again. I like the way they feel more lately. It would be awesome to have these.

First pedalboard shot I have seen from 2019. Unfortunately, not a very good pic and only captures about a quarter of his board. I can see the whammy, tremelo, gt2, ce5 and rat there. The only thing different I can see here is a white pedal above the whammy that wasnt there in the past

Looks like a micro amp or something like that. Or maybe the MXR comp....

Anyone else messing around with the HX Stomp to try and achieve the JC tone? I set up a "The Pot" preset that was just two parallel paths, one with a Rat, EQ, and GK amp model and the other with a just a GK amp. Sending about 75% to the clean channel and 25% to the dirty channel got my Stingray pretty close to the dirty sections with not a huge amount of tweaking. The cleaner intro section is still missing something however.

I would try sticking an EQ in the clean path. Mess with the mids.

I've always been curious as to how the 'clean channel/dirty channel' set up worked. I'm guessing you have a split signal with clean tone to one amp and a parallel signal that goes through your effects?

Correct - two amps, two cabs, and a signal splitter.

That is exactly how I'd run mine if I did it like that. I've got a couple patches set up to where I run two rigs out of the HX Effects. I route all my pedals and effects in the HX through to both my rigs. One rig i handles the cleans, a nice, tight and compressed signal with some added things like maybe chorus or octave. Then the second one goes to the other rig which is where all the dirt goes. I've never tried this live yet, but man does it sound good at home. I love the HXFX. That thing is just killer. It allows you to route your rig and board just about any way you want and not have to sacrifice any low end or anything else. It works really well.

But even without a second rig, you can split your signal in the HX and route all your stuff to either split signal you want. So even without the added rig, it works really good. But the added rig will obviously be a lot better for large sized venues and places where you need a lot of volume. Love my HX. It just rules.

And blended at the front of house? What are the advantages of a set up like this?

You don't lose any lows whatsoever and the FOH has more control over what comes out of the FOH if he has a clean signal and a separate dirty signal. It makes the overall sound in the venue much cleaner and easy to EQ and or dial in and mix with the rest of the band.
