Tool tone/FX sticky thread ver. 1

Curious if anybody has any feedback for me: https://soundcloud.com/user-5250624...pler-oct-7-2020

The file linked above has some partial covers, plus some improvisations of my own mixed in.

My goals are something like the following:
1. Sounds like bass
2. All the notes are audible and distinct
3. The tone is warm and dynamic without getting muddy

For anybody wondering, there are 4 tracks. DI, SM57 (dirty), Beta52 (wet), and a 1/4" clean line in.

Always been inspired by effects to push up limits of creativity with a bass. I started 13 years ago building up a pedalboard similar to Justin Chancellor, in order to play accurate covers. Then I customized it according to my tastes and recently made it more suitable for the compositions in my (Bass/vocals + Drums/vocals) duo project.
Pedals choice and order are thus carefully considered : I prefer phaser over flanger sound and modulation on purpose after delay, a volume pedal rather than turning pot on instrument by hand, a delay with tap tempo and embedded presets, an additionnal reverb activated at the end of the dirt loop (LS-2) for solos, a final looper to add low and/or high layers...

My effects chain order :

> Boss TU-2 (Tuner)

> EBS Multicomp (Compressor)

> Darkglass B3K (Overdrive)

> Boss LS-2 (Line Selector) with loop : > Digitech Bass Whammy > MXR Brown Acid (Fuzz) > Blackout Effectors Musket (Fuzz) > Fuzzrocious Rat Tail Custom (Distorsion) > Boss GEB-7 (Equalizer) > *Neunaber Slate V1 (Reverb)

> Dunlop DVP4 Mini (Volume)

> Walrus Audio Mako D1 (Delay)

> *Neunaber Expanse + ExP Controller (Reverb + Shimmer + Tremolo + Phaser)

> TC Electronic Ditto Jam X2 (Looper)

* Programmable

For recording :

> Mesa Boogie Subway Bass DI-Preamp (DI / Preamp)

> TC Electronic Impact Twin (FireWire audio interface)

The project i joined a few weeks back is really moving quickly, we have one song finished and we're about to get to work on 3 more. If they're serious, I'm serious :bassist:

Im gonna test it out if I can tonight, and hopefully this weekend I'll be able to post some clips. I'll also do a video of my board and signal chain for you guys

As promised, here's a picture of my board as is.

So my current signal path is a follows: Bass (Stingray) -> Morley -> Vintage Microtubes-> Chorus -> Amp (GK) with the delay in the effects loop.

I have a 4 x 10 at home and the bandleader has an 8 x 10 (that i will soon be buying) at his house. All in all I get a very thick, Justin Chancellor-esque tone from my rig.

One of the questions i get most, is about the Tonebender and "what pedal can i get that will sound like it, that wont break the bank"....there have been threads and Facebook conversations about this...and the MXR Brown Acid Fuzz comes up. Well someone i "tone trust" has tried one and its still missing something.
So i am having a pedal builder come up with a Tonebender clone at a decent price. There will be a limited number of 10 built to start.
These will be in a Sansamp size enclosure ...1590BB and the power and the in/out jacks can be mounted on the top.
These will also be hand soldered PTP (point to point)...not like the current Tonebender re-issue, which is pcb (cheaper)
They will be adjusted for bass frequencies, to which the TB is awful at. He may even put a guitar/bass switch on it....but that may come on batch #2 depending on initial interest.
He is still working on a price.....not sure posting it here would be kosher, so if there is any interest, contact me and i can give you his deets. He is on top of his game, so these should be top notch.
I will DEF be doing an A/B comparison video, once he has done his research and builds me one. So here (just for reference) will be an idea. I will post a pic
