Top "Drunks at Gigs" stories

I was playing at a gig once that had a balcony in the back of the room. Some drunk guy takes a header off the balcony (a good 10 foot drop) and lands right on our sound board. We're figuring the guy is dead or has broken his neck or something...he gets up, brushes himself off and staggers out of the bar. Drunks do have guardian angels. Luckily there wasn't any damage to our sound board, so we just kept on jammin'. A typical night for a rock n' roll band.....

so we play a couple gigs (on weekdays) for this little crap-hole here in portland. weekends are alright for this place because it's downtown and they book some decent acts. we decide that we've paid our "dues" for this place and we won't be playing anymore weekdays. so, at our next monday night gig that someone agreed to, we decide that this will be our last show at this venue (they barely even promoted so, whatever) and we begin to drink (the one thing we do get from this place; booze). i don't even drink much, but even more rarely before a gig and i'm a bit tipsy. so our frontman (guitar/vocals) who drank a lot at that time, gets REALLY "tipsy". we are upset at the booking person and venue, so this was the one gig where i didn't mind him screwing up the set, which he did, pretty bad. but to top it all off; toward the end of the set, after a lot of jumping and hair twirling, he just couldn't keep his balance anymore, and fell flat on his face lengthwise accross the stage. instead of getting up, he proceeded to make sweet, sweet love to his guitar (well, it was laying right underneath him), then flips over onto his back and continues making guitar babies while soloing (his best playing all set). of course, we haven't played there since but some of our friends that were there said it was one of the most entertaining shows they'd seen us play.

I was playing with a blues/classic rock band that pulled a gig up the Delta at a place called Moore's Riverboat II. The owners wanted to try and push the summer boating season a little and booked us, unfortunately, before the weather warmed up. So we show up, set up, and start playing. There are less than a half-dozen people in the bar and one of them, a guy, is so plastered by the end of our first set that he slides off the back of his stool onto the floor. His friends rush to help him up, and he staggers toward the front door and out. Now, this venue is kind of odd, as the front entrance is a reproduction gangway. It's metal and stable, but narrow and pain to push gear up. The drunk guy goes out the door and everybody can hear him stumbling down the gangway. The next thing everyone hears is a big "SPLASH." The gangway had a good ten-to-fifteen feet of Delta water between the entrance of the bar and the parking lot. The drunk guy fell over the rail and into the water. His friends again rush to his aid, and he is pulled from the water. Then, he just ups and vanishes. Nobody can find him. The friends he had were from out-of-state and he had ferried them in his boat to the bar. They had no idea where they were or how they were going to get home without him. He reappeared after about an hour after a quick nap in the tule reeds at the other end of the parking lot.

Hot chick with waist-long tresses rushes up on stage during a real piledriver of a tune and starts wipping her mane around in circles, gets dizzy and staggers halfways onto guitarist's wahwah pedal which tips sideways breaking off both jacks and binding the treadle.

...Which throws her further off balance the other direction -next thing I know her hair is all tangled up in my strings and tuners and we're only coming into the last verse and chorus. She's screaming and falling all over the place which guitarist sees so he blocks her from complete fall, but it's pulling my Six's neck around and man is it hard to play stuff I normally play down by the nut and open, so I'm struggling to play it up by the fifth fret and above and just FINISH THE SONG.

Place is in an uproar with hooting jeering and laughing and the bouncer comes up with a big pair of scissors. We hold her in place while he cuts her loose and carries her off stage. Then I take my string cutters out of my case and remove the copious strands left tangled in the bass. Minutes later I'm done and I'm heading through the foyer to the john. And she's laying halfways out the lady's room door into the foyer passed out in her own hurl.

Wow, that had to be traumatic ; }

let me put it this way
drunken homeless dudes really seem to take a shining to me at free outdoor gigs
like this guy was rocking out hard and at one point he comes up to the front of the stage and just screams "YEAH MURDER THAT ****ING BASS"
it was amazing

That's awesome.

A mate's buck's night and he also had his band play. He's got his custom made guitar and proud as punch of it (Ibanez neck with a custom body, white finish, sweet instrument).

So we're all fairly hammered and the owner was in party mode (he's in his mid 20's and lived it up a lot a couple years ago) going around the stage and to some of us pouring straight tequila down people's throats. After the second bottle ran out he had a bottle of vodka. Passes it to my mate and he has a swig, then a mate's girlfriend grabs the bottle and has more than a swig of it. Next thing she's thrust the bottle back and is trying not to puke everywhere.

At this point Ratty (who's buck's night it was) has put his guitar on the stage whilst he's off taking a leak and the band is still playing. My mate's girlfriend can't hold it in anymore, and so she lets it all go - you guessed it, right onto his guitar. Of course, she's been drinking vodka and rasberry all night so it looks like blood on the white paintwork. Ratty comes back a moment later but in his drunkeness doesn't notice and puts the guitar on about to play it when Glen (on the other guitar) is yelling NOOOOOOOoooooooo.....!!!!!

Luckily he noticed in the nick of time and got it clean again.

Later that night he had an argument with his dad, punched a wall and broke his hand... 1/2 an hour of waiting in emergency he can't be bothered anymore so goes back to the pub and keeps drinking till sunrise, in mucho pain the next day. He got married with a plaster cast and I got alcohol poisoning after his wedding from the whole weekend, but that's another story...

I'll play.

Ran lights/sound for a popular local band. A Frat hired them for a large party. We arrive and set up to a room that would easily hold 500-800 poeople.

Anyway, it turns out it's a toga party (shortly after animal house came out. Some genius decided to make Swamp Juice and to make it more interesting to dump dry ice into the tub.

Anyway, the fog fills the place. It seemed like something from a Historyr channel flashback for an orgy.

Anyway, I'm standing by the boards, cords neatly taped down. This hot blond comes up, obviously trashd and say "do you mind if I crash here?" I looked around wondering what she talked about. By the time I looked back she had laid down on the floor pulling several groups of cable over her as a blanket, taking down the lighting controller in the process.

Just about the time I started to extricate her from what could have been a very dangerous place, she decided to show me what she'd had for lunch that day. Blew chunks all over me, my cords, and knocked over the sound board. The bouncer came over and tryied to help but by then much of the damage was done...

There was this guy who stood about 4 ft nothing, and I swear his hair was 5 feet long. As the night went along he decided to be more "one with the band" walking on stage getting in front of the singer etc... All this time he was doing this head banging manover, hair was everywhere. the drummers wife was taking pictures to post on our web site, and in half of the pictures was this guys gravity defying hair.

I'm from the generation that remembers seeing Eric Clapton in London smashed out of his brains and laying on his back while still playing. I also toured and played with a beer swilling guitarist who once peed and puked into a bucket behind my old Selmer Goliath (118+112) cab while we played.

I have many stories from the past 46 yrs of playing, one that comes to mind?.....Apart from the time we got our B3 stuck on a narrow stairway, we were on route up the M1 (UK Motorway) when a roadie who'd comsumed "copious amounts of beer" took a leak in an old jar, opened the vans sliding door and stupidly threw it into the wind.

Suffice to say, everything and everyone in the front of the cab stank to high heaven for the next several hours.

Drunk stories, I got a ton of em...from the guy who charged the stage wielding a shovel to the 65 yr old street person at an outdoor gig who danced on stage then removed her top baring her fried eggs. From the time an all out multi family brawl erupted at a wedding to the night at a large theatre (civic function) our then wheelchair bound guitarist rolled straight off the stage crashing sideways into the orchestra pit.

Ya, Its been quite a ride ;)

well sadly this drunk was me. We went up to isla vista in santa barabara to play a show on saterday which went great there were prolly like 800-900 drunk college kids and everything was great.we rocked it so hard they told us to stay and play nother show on sunday. In isla Vista everyday is a party day so we agreed.
So like half way thru the show we were having sum technical difficulties with my guitars players mesa,so we werent sure if we were gunan play or not. Our party animal drummer decides to go purchase a 30 rack and a bottle of the cheapest plastic bottle known to man so we could chill on it while he figures it out. Anyways we kill it all really fast, the guitar player got all his gear in order and we play the show fine at first. There was prolly a good 250 people there and I was pretty typsy.
It starts geting bad when these cute chicks start coming up on stage and giving me cups and cups of sum wine. So eventually as you could imagine everything catches up with me and Im smashed as hell. I put down my bass and proceed to just try and get in these chicks pants. Didnt really remember too much, but later I threw up all over myself. Im sure i was the drunkest person there :smug:
