Tort guard hate?

I’ve owned an actual ‘57 and now a reissue both with the anodized gold pickguard.
Besides this oversight I am frankly personally offended that any consideration of anything but TORT is at least egregiously offensive. I’ve seen white and while those folks are clingers on and who will arrive at their own personal epiphanies in their own time when afforded patience and empathy there is no other pickguard that bespeaks the truth of magnificence that Leo’s creations express.

I needed a dictionary, thesaurus, and my dad's help to bring this erudite tome down to my level of vocabulary... In any case , I think I agree!!!

This looks really good. I think if it where the more reddish rather than the brownish tort it wouldn't look so good.

Apologies if this has been covered ad naseum here, but I’m new to the fold and lazy about searching, so here goes: why all the tort guard hate? Personally, I’ve always been a huge fan of tort guards; probably my favorite guard option. Am I in the minority? Lay it on me, TalkBass, what say y’all?

It honestly just looks like someone vomited raw meat all over it, and it just doesn’t look attractive the majority of the time for me. It does look okay on some basses, though, like on the Schecter Hellcat VI or the Fender/Squier Bass VI. It also looks pretty cool on Fender MIJ Jags, but in general, I tend to stay far away from it.

I don’t have the citation right in front of me, but research has proven that tort guards are a leading cause — perhaps the leading cause — of 60-cycle hum.
