What do you guys think about tortoise on Candy Apple Red? Does that work? Does anyone have any pictures of this combo they could post?

I know a lot of guys around here love it, but I personally think it looks like a turd smear on a pretty bass.

to the OP - I haven't seen a fender-style bass color that wouldnt look good w/ tort. but fwiw CAR would look great w/ tort or black pg. what fb wood?
You can put tortoise on anything and I'll dig it. I've also been warming up to candy apple with mint, it even sounds delicious!

The bass is CAR with rosewood FB with pearl block inlays. To tortoise or not to tortoise, that is the question.
Am I just wack or is it possible to get different "shades" of tort?
I've seen some that look very reddish and others that are very dark brownish... or is that just an optical illusion based on what color they're laid over?

Crappy cell phone pic, but I really like white pearl on my CAR (with ebony lined fretless neck).
I've been thinking about swapping out the black PG on my 78 black P with a tort... just to change things up a bit... but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
It's a maple board so I'm not sure how that would wind up looking. Probably would have done it by now if it were a rosewood board. And I've got the pickup cover on... black, tort, maple and chrome seems like maybe a little too much going on.
