New band that my old bandmates in my avatar put together (minus our guitarist). Way less arena rock and more indie. Done in our individual homes and basements. I played my SB-2 into a Focusrite Scarlett Solo, with compression and EQ via Pro Tools First. Sent the file to my singer, who put it together after throwing some chorus on my bass. Timing's a little weird as I had to shift my lines to fit some spots, but we're pretty happy with the end result. This is my first foray into home recording, but definitely not my last. We are at about 4 songs and counting. It helps when the bandleader is a prolific songwriter.

A little then and now for ya.

This one is from six months ago, recorded on a Fostex digital recorder, using a Boss Dr. Rhythm drum machine. My first clumsy foray:


This one I uploaded last night. Recorded on a DAW, with drum software. I also posted this on the YouTube video thread, so apologies if you’re seeing it again:

Hadn't seen this thread, it showed up accidentally in a search I did, glad to have found it.

So, 2020 was the year of upping my home demo game. I don't compose that much original music (what I'd call MY music consists of 20 released songs and some more material I'd call "viable" for future releases). These are my latest 2 demos. Drums are programmed with Hydrogen (using a nice multi layered drumkit I've built thru' time), then imported as separate tracks (for kick, snare, HH, stereo toms and stereo OHs) into a Zoom R24 where everything else is recorded, then all audio tracks mixed/"mastered" in Reaper (best most fast/stable/reliable producing tool apart from the R24 -BIG Zoom fan here-). Everything played/sung by me (I'm the bass player but also compose/arrange all vocals and sing lead in my -intermittent- originals project). This is the level of demo I can afford to make at home. Constructive criticism is more than welcome.
