Totally amateur recordings thread

Just some spoken word silliness, reciting the Tolkein poem (attributed to the Hobbits) "The Mewlips" over a trip hop backing track borrowed off youtube... Vox processed through Helix Twin Harmony and Chamber reverb effects.

Edit: updated the track, fixed my weak mic signal problem. The Helix is a complicated beast.

Another one of my "bedroom" covers - on my Zoom Q8, a cover of Warren Zevon's "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner":

Fingerpicking's a bit rusty at first...

I'm at it again - this time, Jethro Tull's "Wind Up", I kind of borked the word order in the fast bridge and last verse, should do over...

More from my bedroom, recorded this on my Samsung Tab S3 with a Dolby recorder app, some flubs.

Guitar's still too loud and voice too soft. Need to get back to my full recording rig.

I wrote this song to encourage kids to read. The music is actually from a previous song I wrote, and it's the actual music I recorded back in the late '80s on my trusty Tascam Porta One 4-track cassette deck. I like to think the music is a bit like Prince. I sang and recorded the lead vocal two days ago.

"When You Read":

Got tentative lyrics written. Did this a couple years ago. I just did a rough scratch vocal on the choruses.

I wrote this based on a very funny and extremely bizarre dream I had about doing a mind meld with Niles Crane (from the "Frasier" tv show). In short, it's about keeping up with the Joneses in the worst way.

Instruments used:

Strat
5 string MusicMan copy bass
Software Hohner Pianet
Drum loop library.

I get the feeling David Byrne would love your quirky musical style!

Does professionally recorded count at "totally amateur" even if I remain an amateur? Here's a preview from my punk rock band Sex Negative's upcoming EP. It's my first real band/recording on bass, although I've done plenty of stuff on guitar in the past. I wrote the music, the singer wrote the lyrics and everyone rocked it up.
