Manze's opened in 1929 I believe...there used to be loads of pie n mash joints in London, and they traditionally had the fancy ( to a greater or lesser degree) tiled interior.. In the 80s I lived in the East End and there were quite a few in Bethal Green to choose from, was good grub, and cheap, ideal for guys in bands really!

The pie and mash ( & jellied eel) shops have declined in recent times, still a few around tho.....Pellici's Italian cafe ( with its deco look) is still going in Bethnal Green, I used to pass this most days, and is round the corner from where the Krays used to live.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say that room temperature foods most definitely have merit, including salads. I actually prefer it to chilled. The flavours seem to blossom more. And yes, I spelled flavour like that so y'all would think I'm sophistimicated ;)

Tomatoes should never be refrigerated unless they previously ripened at room temperature and will start to rot if not cooled.
I never buy the soft ones at the market 'cause they're just soft, not ripe.
If I must buy em and use them as soon as I get home, I run them under warm water first,

For me cold watermelon is good on a hot day, but more flavorful at room temp the rest of the time.

There are sixty seconds in a minute no matter where you are on the planet.

Yet, I'm still trying to figure out how many minutes are in a second when I'm on the phone and the person on the other end has to do or verify something, but first tells me "one second please", and I end up waiting an extended amount of time with or without actually being placed on hold.
