I was browsing gear on CL and saw this bass. Very interesting and not a lot of info but it's from the auto manufacturer. Toyota Model 925 Bass Guitar - musical instruments - by owner - sale (craigslist.org)
pretty cool! i don't remember "toyota instruments" as being a thing: if it plays nicely, who cares? but, i'm gonna see what Kia has to offer..........
My first impression was that it might be faked, as I've never heard of this before, and because the nameplate on the headstock is a bit off center - suggesting home-made. But after looking them up online, this seems very legit. Interesting find. Thanks for posting!
A co-worker of mine has one of these, found in an abandoned storage unit a few years ago. It’s fun to play. I’ve seen a couple of others around as well. The seller’s price and claim of “Impossibly rare” seem impossibly optimistic to me. They’re not especially great instruments but, yes, they’re uncommon so I guess that’s something.
I'll wait for the high end Lexus bass. Edit: I had to look... I guess Fender beat me to it and at only $6,000.00 :
Oddly enough, I just customized a GK cab that I got cheap: It was from an 88 Camry I had, was sitting in my parts box in the garage, and this cab needed a badge of some sort. I guess I'm not the originator of such ideas. BUMMER!
More and more, I've been hearing people say their Volkswagen basses are just as good, if not even better, than Porsche basses. ...OR... That's cool and all, but I'm saving up my bucks for a Lexus bass.
