The question is this.

Is it a Moyer Standard or a Moyer Signature?
Standard= No aguilar
Signature = Aguilar

The best way to find out is to pop off the control cover on the back and see if there is a little cube with a bunch of wires coming out of it that says Aguilar on it.

Sorry, I guess I read something into the post that wasn't there. Didn't think any of the Havocs had the 5-way switch at that. I bow to Montana's knowledge. :D

I've been known to be wrong, and since the web site no longer has the info it is tough to tell but the inspection will tell alot. Good luck and HOT BASS MAN

These are the specs for the standard:
•Body: Paulonia
•Bridge: Chaos Internal Bridge™
•Construction: Bolt-on neck
•Fretboard: Rosewood
•Inlays: N/A
•Scale: 35" five string or 34" four string
•Electronics: Rockfield active pre-amp
•Controls: Three-band equalizer with volume and five-way switch
•Pickups: Rockfield Humbuckers
•Nut: Bone

Here are the specs for the signature or Havoc model:

•Body: Paulonia
•Bridge: Chaos Internal Bridge™
•Construction: Bolt-on neck
•Fretboard: Rosewood fingerboard
•Inlays: N/A
•Scale: 35" four string
•Electronics: Aguilar® amplification obp-3 pre-amp
•Controls: Three-band equalizer with volume and five-way switch
•Pickups: Rockfield Humbuckers
•Nut: Bone

Yeah its definitely a standard, the Havoc only comes in 'Black Vapor' (figured maple top). Looks like some of them have the 5-way switch, and perhaps some older models (i.e. Bedrockhead's standard) had a 3-way switch....? That would be my guess.

Yay for having a number! :D

Funny you should mention that...

Dave, this is what you have:

http://www.trabenbass.com/chaos_core.php

18V electronics, 5-way selector switch (no coil tapping needed, already there for you), hot 18V Aguilar preamp inside!

Check out the control diagram on that link above!

I think you'll like it better than the John Moyer model.

So, 18V Aguilar, 5-way selector, already coil-tapped...looks like you were right after all ;)

All the signatures had figured tops as well, so if this has the sig electronics it's a mix up in the factory that worked to your advantage.

EDIT: #65 is your number! :)

Yup, that'll do nicely! :D

I did notice though, looking on the BC Rich site, it lists the Standard with the same specs (Rockfield preamp), but it lists the Havoc (Signature) as being available in Black Vapor OR Gloss Black. Perhaps they were jumping the gun on production, and Ive ended up with a BC-Rich-spec Havoc, in Gloss Black, for the price of a Traben Standard. I managed to bargain the dealer down on the price anyway, so despite list price here being £350 for a standard and £575 for a Havoc, I managed to get mine for £289 delivered...and ended up with coil-tapped pickups and an Aguilar preamp!!!! Ahhh, life is good today :D

Nice nice nice!

What a score, you've definatly scored a lucky factory screw up, weather Friday Evening, or Monday morning someone slipped some sig model electronics into a standard, or someone jumped the gun and gave you a BC Rich sig with a Traben tag.....

Regardless, it's awesome and congrats! :D

But you know from all the Traben pics I see on the used market, it looks like Traben has changed names/models at will over the years. I've seen what looks like today's Phoenix with a Kore and Array tag on it. The Array called a Kore. I get confused sometimes.

So, my Custom Neo 5 just got turned fretless. It sounds amaaaaazing. Much better than I expected. The dark sound of the bass really lends itself well to the brightened sound of an epoxy fingerboard to form a very versatile bass. And it looks good too!

I've got two Trabens, a John Moyer like the one above and the Chaos Core with the Aguillar preamp. Its good that you've got the 5 way switch and the Augillar in yours but to be honest, I prefer (for live playing) the Rockfield and the 3-way switch. However, for recording the Chaos Core is better.

Either way, they're great basses and I love 'em!

Oh and even if we do drive on the PROPER side of the road, we still put the headstocks on the right way :)

In fact, if you're interested, the reason we drive on this side of the road, dates back to medieval times when mounted horsemen would ride on this side of the road in case they met some hostile people. Riding on the left hand side of the road meant they could draw their sword and engage in combat.

Us Brits just love a fight ! :)

I think the preamp that you prefer tends to have alot to do with your amp and cabinet combination and how you use the tone shaping circuits of the amp. My guess is that if you found your sound live with the rockfield, you could find just as good of a live sound with your Aguilar if you messed with your amp. The same settings will not sound good with both preamps. I would imagine that why your recordings sound better with the Aguilar is because your bypassing the tone circuit in your head and recording direct. This would make a bunch of sense since the Aguilar is 10x the preamp than the Rockfield.

When I had both I had preferred settings on my head for both basses and ultimately I replaced the rockfield preamp with an Aguilar.

Sorry I tend to ramble and be opinionated. What it really comes down to is that each of us has a different sound that we are striving for, it is completely subjective.

One thing I love about the Aggie is the bass boost freaks sound guys out, Good stuff.

As far as the Fightin' thing goes...........We love bailing your ass out too. :p

Ah ok, I was going on this post from Bedrockhead:

Looks like he added a couple of mini-switches to have coil-taps on his one (back on page 44), did they ever make a different version of this then? I saw some sites said that the standard has a 3-way switch, others said 5-way switch. Not that it matters really, Ive got the 5-way so Im happy!

Yup, I did add the mini's. Like the way it's set up, and I tend to use mine in the middle position with both tapped.
