Tricked Out Squier Club Part 2

Jimmy (Wilson@Landing) didn't mangle it! This is an Indonesian Tribute I picked up lightly used. I took out the tone control so it is V/V and added the control plate so I could utilize a standard Switchcraft jack vs. the barrel-type:
I bet that would be wicked reggae bass ( if it had a tone roll off ). Either way, awesome.

If I'm not mistaken, the VM5 uses 3.9"/4.1" pickups, the same size as USA/MIM 5 strings...

I don't know and haven't heard of anyone (besides Fred) who knows exactly why he's ceased production...
Probably. It has a naturally fat, full (but defined!) tone in general. I never roll off the highs when playing. That's the main reason that the original tone control is sitting in a parts box.

Squier is not a Fender. Its a Squier. Someone dropped a set in a deluxe active jazz V.
Yep, they fit in that bass quite well. I've done it 3 times.
HOWEVER... the Affinity and VM5 don't use the same pickup size as the DAJV (and for what reason, I'll never know!).
I am in the process of tricking out a black Squier body - the bridge pickup route needs to be widened. Oh well, I was hoping to do this without having a luthier touch it. Now I need to have this done. Not cheap.
The Sadowsky/Dimarzio pickups are both 3.7" wide and built for 19mm string spacing.
The Fender V sizes are 3.9" and 4.1" wide and designed for 18mm string spacing.
I really wish that Dimarzio would hurry up and make Fender sized UltraJazz pickups for the 5 string. They are the sound I love, but my US Fender stays in the case now because my SQUIER sounds so damn good!
I'll play - just got a Squier project assembled. Body is a MIK Squier II with a Wilkinson bridge, neck is a recent Affinity Jazz. Wasn't expecting much from it before the assembly, but after my luthier worked his magic, it plays/sounds great. It's also as light as a feather (just over 7 lbs).

Let me know what you think, when you do. I was eying those as well. I want that funky stank on my US J bass, but nothing I've tried so far has made me quiver. And I've tried the SCN, Noiseless, and Nordstrand NJ5FS.
