Tricked Out Squier Club Part 2

Let me know what you think, when you do. I was eying those as well. I want that funky stank on my US J bass, but nothing I've tried so far has made me quiver. And I've tried the SCN, Noiseless, and Nordstrand NJ5FS.

My whole take on it, Aguilar is owned, operated, and used by bassists for a reason. everyone else does guitar pickups and happens to make bass pickups. Aguilar does nothing but bass. Kind like the reason I go to a plumber and not a car mechanic to fix my toilet. I go to a bass player to outfit my bass.

But if I go with them I will write some kind of review.

what are some people's take on Fender CS 60's Jazz pickups verses Squier 60's CV Jazz pickups?

theyre both great.

i tend to favor one more than the other, but there is no wrong/bad choice between those two.

I think it all comes down to preference. I can recall a YouTube video someone posted a while back with Ed Friedland A/B 'ing
a Squier CV 60's Jazz alongside his CS 62 Jazz and the difference between the two was not all that great.

I'm not saying the CS didn't sound a bit better but not by a wide margin. I've owned and played 60's vintage JBasses and as far as the Squier CV capturing the basic tonality of them with stock pickups I'd say they've done a very good job. JMHO.

Short Scale Tele Bass built using a Squier Bronco neck - should be finished soon....

Do you think that a 34" scale would work on one of these bodies? Or would things not line up good enough?

it looks like he set the neck further back in the pickup cavity to make the scale shorter. in theory i dont see why you couldnt do a medium or full scale on a body like that.

edit: i vaugely recall him doing a full scale like this.

I believe he did, but increased the size of the body to make the proportions look right....or perhaps "more traditional" is a better term.

Here's my tricked out Squier.

'Twas just an older Squier Affinity. Ordered a pickup, pickguard, pots, jack, and tone cap from GFS.
Picked up the thumb rest, speed knobs, and Chromes in town. Put it all together yesterday and I'm very pleased with it. Sounds mean! Eventually I want to throw a chrome bridge cover on it and I'm good to go!

Finished my Precision Special 5 string upgrade today. I left the original bridge pickup, since I rarely use it, installed a Wilkinson 5-string P-Bass pickup, new full size pots, orange drop tone cap and a switchcraft jack.

I made the pickguard from tortoise material from Guitarfetish and shielded it with a combination of aluminum foil and aluminum tape for HVAC applications.

I've been using the bass for a while with the electronics held in by painter's tape. It's strung with D'Addario Chromes and sounds great. My bandmates love it and it records well too.

If I wasn't so cheap, I'd probably buy a Fender 5-string P Bass. While I'm sure it's better than my Tricked Out Squier, I fear that it wouldn't be that much better and I'd be really angry for spending well over a Grand on it.

Wow. That sure turned out looking great. I really like that color combo with the tort. Give a much nicer contrast than the original.

Looks great, sounds great, P/J-bass with tort and flats! There's nothing left to be said...er...well except that I'm thinking blue painters tape holding in the electronics does have a certain "mojo"...

Starts on Post No. 299 (page 15 for me) of The Official Telecaster Bass Club thread.

I started this a few days ago. Made the templates over the weekend. I slightly enlarged the body and played with some of the lines to look "right" with a 34" scale. I find that if you don't oversize the body a little and then adjust the size on the lower horn, it'll look really unbalanced. I still have to cut a guard for it - it'll be like the Cabronita pickguard.

It's a grey day in Austin, so I'll take better photos when the weather is nice and once I've cut a pickguard for it ....Anyway....

The bass with a pickguard is shown on the following page.

I whipped up a quick pickguard for it.

I agree, for the extra 650+ bucks I would personally expect a MIA, flawless nut, frets, USA pots, and hipshot tuners, beyond that where's the premium? I've looked at plenty new Fenders' but they're hard to justify. The mim's I've tried are even less justifiable for the extra outlay.

+1. I'm holding out for a Squier Classic Vibe/Vintage Modified/(I'd even go for an Affinity!) Precision V. Of course, I've also considered modding my Squier P5 a la BillyB, but I'm not sure yet.
