Lol, no. I never could adequately capture the color on camera. It was actually a spray can finish, parking-lot striping paint. Think "school bus Orange"

A little update on an endless project (so it seems)
You might remember me getting a Squier P 5.
Came home, Trussrod thread was busted and so on.
while waiting for my new neck i added a badass V bridge.
The new mighty mite neck came in a couple of weeks ago.
fit like a charm. Was only a papers thickness thinner at the heel. but that was allright.
Last week my Gotoh gb7 tuners came in and i've fitted them perfectly if i might say.
I added a floyd rose string retainer for that Sadowsky look.
I thought the pickups sucked and i was keeping my eye out for something new.
My first option was getting a Fender 5 string precision standard pickup,a fender jazz 5 pickup and a brown tortoise precision V pickguard. To give it a more classic stock look.
But i came across a deal on a set of Bartolini MK5CBC for 100 euro's. I thought what the hell.
I've routed the cavity under the pickguard myself using my trusty dremel. But i'm going to let the rest be done by a luthier to have a straight snug fit.
I'm going to let him drill holes for the string through aswell.
I have my eye out on a Fender Precision plus Kubicky preamp for 25 euro's second hand. I read somewhere that these basses had PJ configuration with two volume knobs and bass/treble controll. Could someone tell me if i'm right? Thought that would give it a little special touch.

If that preamp is the same one that Fender used in the Stu Hamm Urge 1 bass, it has Volume, Balance, Bass and Treble controls. The Urge also had a four position switch (active, active with mid boost, passive and standby). In the passive mode, the Bass control becomes a passive tone control.
I owned an Urge 1 and liked the tone a lot more when I took the preamp out wired it as a passive bass...but I find I really don't like the sound of active basses.

I prefer the the look of 5 in-line over the 4+1 and the smaller tuners make that possible. The 5th peg on the opposite side of a Fender headstock (to me) always looks like an ad-on instead of a design choice. The MM bass probably did it to distinguish it from a Fender and to avoid copyright issues, and everyone just got used to it.
Well, trial and error, right?
The Dupli-Color paint was total s**t, and came spitting out of the can right off. From about 5 feet away it looks half decent, but it's going to need a sand, another spray with some other paint, and a new bridge (the Amazon one I got was also total s**t, and I'll just use a Fender one I have lying around).
Still, the SDQP sounds pretty awesome through my little Marshall 10"; can't wait to hear it on my rig.

you have to shake the can for a few minutes to prime it. i have painted guitars with duplicolor lots of times without any issue.
I did that ... oh well. Maybe it wasn't long enough.
Either way, I decided after catching myself in the mirror playing it that I don't think I like colored instruments on myself. So, I'm going to strip and stain it like I did my J, this time in a mahogany. Pics will follow.

I've read many posts on tb threads both lambasting Squier and Fender and also singing their praises. I didn't start out as a Fender bass player. Mostly through chance I think (it was a long time ago) I played Gibson basses. First an EB-3, (probably due to Jack Bruce) and then a T-bird. In fact, I got the T-bird in a loan-shop from a friends tip about a Fender P-bass being there. The P was gone by the time I got there but there was the T-bird, which I bought. Fast forward to '06 when I bought a CIJ '51 RI P, my 1st Fender bass. Then I added a Jazz bass, and now a P/J Jag Squier. I have a few other and different basses now, no two alike. Just not that dedicated to one type/brand - I play and enjoy them all.
So reeling it in here, based on actual products I use/own, I personally have only good things to say about Fender and Fender products like this Squier Jag. I judge each instrument on its merits and uniqueness. I've created my own hybrids and unique basses as well. All different, all good for what each one does.
So here's the review; this affordable Fender Squier bass delivers. Looks good, feels good, plays good, sounds good (am I leaving anything out?) - two thumbs up. One bass can cover a lot of territory, but one bass can't do it all. For what it is - this instrument is exactly what it should be. I don't know how else to say it. The goal of an enjoyably playable bass for a very reasonable price has been achieved. Good work Fender.

Nice job - looks great on the black body.
In keeping with the Talkbass pix-or-it-didn't-happen rule, Here's my Jazz VM undergoing transplant surgery to go from the stock Vol/Vol/Tone set-up (the lower control plate) to Blend/Vol/Tone + series/parallel switch (upper control plate with copper foil).
The new controls are Bourns 500K pots with MN taper on the blend which is not grounded. The volume is a linear taper with slightly higher torque. The tone control has push-pull DPDT switch for series of parallel pick-up configuration and uses a 0.1 nF cap rather than the usual 0.047.
The copper foil is used to ground the pot cases since I don't like the industry-standard-bad-idea of soldering directly to the cases:scowl:. I also used "star" grounding - not because it works better but because I find it easier.
And here is the result - sounds and works well. I'm not sure about those knobs though - the two aluminum ones are for Vol and Tone - the little black guy is blend - I may go back to all black.
More to come including strings, jack, and tuners. Number-worthy?

+1 on this project mate, I think it looks stunning! I must say, I think the P body shape with jazz pickups is heart stoppingly beautiful, especially in that colour. I'm not a fan of 5 strings, but that's a personal thing.

One question, are you going to put a decal on the headstock? and if so what is it going to say? It's not strictly a P / J is it...

I'm still in doubt on what to do with the headstock. I would like a decal. But I am not sure if I should go for Fender Precision Special or something. Or Nocaster Bass. But I have been thinking about using my own brand "Cannabass". I'm making time for myself to start building basses. This is a frankenbass with all the new parts. So first choice is still going to be a decal with "Cannabass Sativa Special" the logo and decal are being designed by a friend who is an artist.
