Tube vs. Solid State = Charcoal vs. Gas?

Propane grilling can be good, but you have to use a very high quality hose between the propane tank and the grill. I did an A/B test on memorial day, and the ribs cooked with the $700 boutique hose were much better than the ones cooked with a cheapo $5 hardware store hose.

I had a burgandy Cordoba too. Actually, it was my wife that wanted it. 9 miles to the gallon. No problem since my wife let me buy any tube amp with a charcoal effects grille I wanted.

So what grill is best for metal???



I use all charcoal all the time but us a sold state amp with a tube preamp. Do I need to change my grill or my amp????

For the record, Tube amps and Charcoal grills are preferential to me, but I have rocked the house with Solid State and Propane. Just never Butane; my Daddy says butane's a bastard gas.

Indeed. I find cooking on swamp ash accentuates the meaty accents better, but maple and poplar better bring out the juicy accents.

But cooking with a flipper or tongs? Real cooks use their fingers!

I bet less than 3% of any of us make real BBQ...which is slow cooked in a covered smoker for at least 18 hours. Dry rubbed ribs. St. Louis style (meatier than babyback) with sauce strictly on the side for dipping. Dont you DARE put sauce on my nice dry rubbed ribs!

Tubes are great, but not worth the hassle of: cost/weight/maintenance for a legend-in-my-spare-time such as myself. I get the most bang for the buck out of really quality Class Ds and no one in the crowd even knows the diff.

Now, if I had roadies and Ampeg was just GIVING me stuff, well it'd be a different story!

SS = charcoal with some wood chips for flavor

Digital modeling = microwave pizza/ramen noodles.


IEM's = cup of rice and some cold water.
