Tune Basses

I played 2 - both at Sam Ash in Hollywood. They both sounded nice though I felt they were on the heavy side. I remember one had a mohogany body, I think the other was ash but they were both in the 10+lb range.

Tune had a booth at NAAM and brought some really beautifull basses along with them, all of which had some beautifull exotic tops. I asked for the price, and they told me $1800 retail, and I was floored! They easily looked like a $3000 bass. I didn't get a chance to plug any in, but I'm curious enough now to want to order one to see what they are like. I've been looking for a nice 4 string, so maybe I'll go that route.

Man, that bass looks good on you! :D I like seeing it in a pic like that. It gives me a better idea of how it really looks and it looks sweet!

BTW, is yours all stock or have you made any mods? Thanks.

Unless I'm mistaken, the only Tune's are made in Japan. The ones we see at Sam Ash are Korean un-licensed knock-off's. Or, at least, that was the case last time I looked into it a year or so back.

In fact... I just hit Tune's site - http://www.cc.rim.or.jp/~tune/ and found this:

The photographs and endorsements on the Korean website were taken from our website without our permission.
This company is in no way affiliated with the original TUNE company from Japan.
An authentic TUNE bass comes with a warranty.
If you plan to purchase a TUNE bass be sure to check that the warranty is issued from Japan.

it's true, i heard the same thing from a Tune dealer in Japan.
a Korean company found a loophole in international copyrights and decided to replicate the bass.
i think they had been making electronics (legally) for Tune Japan, and then decided, hey, "why make just the electronics? let's make the whole bass!!"
(disclaimer: my japanese is not perfect, but i'm reasonably sure i understood his story correctly)

but if skylines and kingstons are any indication, i'm sure the korean made ones are very nice.

who knows? maybe it was as simple as being the first to register a copyright/patent. but i can't imagine Tune Japan would grant them a license and then complain/lie about it on their website?

Sweet Bass Robear22,

From that picture I thought it was Charles S. Dutton playing the bass, do you ever get told you look like him? You also look just like my cousin, who looks like...nevermind.

I played one at Sam Ash a few months ago... I am a Bass Newbie.. but when I plugged it in, and played a scale my wifes eyes got big... because it sounded better than everything else I had plugged in. (At that point... I wish I could do some sweet soloing, but I realized at that moment that I still sucked.:rollno: )

I get called Roc a lot lately. I need to lose some weight!!!:D They are real nice and a lot of people are sleeping on them. The shape took a while to get use to but when I plugged her in the first time I fell in love. I wanted something a little different looking anyway and this bass fits the bill.
