A Danish band called Picnic has (had?) two bassists, not sure where you can find some of there stuff or if they're even around anymore.

Two Bass Players

In John Coltrane's Ascension, he has two upright bassists. (meaning they play upright basses, not basses while upright)- one played arco and the other pizzicato. There were even going to be two drummers also.
the dirtbombs have two bass players and two drummers and one hell of guitar player - saw them at Twangsfest in St Louis a couple of years ago
santana used two bass plyers on Caravanserai (his best album) on at least a couple of songs - well an upright and a electric bass

Best two-bassist band ever was/is SADHAPPY, featuring Michael Manring and Paul Hinklin.
i highly recommend checking out SadHappy's CD "Good Day Bad Dreams"

I was about to post this too. They actually played it live when they toured with all three basses!
Through the late 60s, at least, it was a very common practice IN THE STUDIO to have a double-bass and an electric bass, er, "doubling the double-bass"!
In fact, I believe pretty much all the Beach Boys albums feature this, as an example.
Does that mean when he is doing the 'Bass Extremes' thing with Steve Bailey.........it's actually 4 midgets in total on stage?
nah steve bailey is on stilts he wishes he was 2 midgets.
I am not sure why Mr. Wooten ended up on the list... unless you mean his is so good that he counts as two guys.
When playing with his own Victor Wooten band, he has had two bass players playing harmony, and he plays melody over the bass lines. He does it live, mostly, and jams like that...
It's not his regular gig. When Vic does it..he does it right!

There used to be a band out of Melbourne, Australia called Preshrunk. Two basses and a drummer. Cool band.....I miss them. Don't know if there's any YouTube of them out there anyway. Probably is but I can't search for it while I'm at work.

Are you sure? I've read a lot about Motown over the years ansd while they had a number of on-call bass players, I don't think they ever recorded more than one at a time. There are pictures in the studio and on the early Review tours where Jamerson is the only bass player.
Sounds like you're describing Phil Spector's recording methods.
