Ornette Colemen has used two bass players in many of his bands since 1960. Check out his Prime Time stuff (also two drummers and two guitarists, it's a double trio format pre Crimson) particularly Body Meta with Charlie Haden on upright and Jamaaladeen Tacuma (an incredible player who deserves more recognition) on electric.

The Funk Brothers (Motown) occasionally used two bass players on some recordings. Live Motown Review tours (various "artists" with selected back-up players mixed with locals from the union) often used two bass players on stage.

Also, I remember seeing a band when I was like 13 or 14 that had a double bass and an electric bass. I thought it was really cool at the time (i was just getting into playing myself). Can't think of their name right now.

Fun and Anguish. Original rock band out of St. Louis had two bass players for a while (with guitar and drums).
Talking heads had two bass players for a while.
And if you attend the Grand Old Opry, you'll often see two basses going during the show. The house bassist will sometimes play 'tic tac' behind the featured band.
