Two Note Torpedo CAB M

I finally dialed in a few standard setups instead of what I think was great sounding. I found out I kept making the same sound.

So my best set up with the CAB M is using the Le Bass at 12 o'clock for the gain, bass and treble on the clean channel. Fretless Super Squier with DP 123 and EB Cobalt flat w/ Spectracomp compression 25%. I set the following in my CAB M.

  • Cabinet: Fridge 8*10
  • P-AMP: PP KT88 Pendode, volume 24, Depth 100, Presence 76
  • EQ: Bass +1 50, +1 120, -1 360, +6 800, -3 4k
  • Reverb: 8% Studio B
  • Mic A: Dyn Bass52 Dist 0 Axis 0 Front volume 0 db
  • Mic B: Rbn 121 Dist 0 Axis 49 Front volume -6 db.

Should we make a cabinet thread that follows a a recipe way of setting up? It took me forever fiddling around until I got about 6 set ups I like a lot. I got a Bassman setup and a SWR WM on as well, but this one is my best sounding one.
Yes! And post any tips for how you’re using it.
Finally got my board back together (almost), so I got to hear Le Bass together with C.A.B.m, and man does it sound good through my Yamaha DSR112 powered monitor! And I have no idea what I’m doing! Tomorrow is for dialing in some tones!

Here is my very novice advice I can give you. I am a bedroom player and play bass ans guitar as a hobby between finishing up my doctorate degree. I am in no ways a professional player. I am not nearly as good as I was back in the 90's after a 20 year hiatus.

Here is my advice from learning about the CAB M.
  • Use a looper pedal and play a lengthy rift and use that as you fiddle around with your settings. Sounds simple but this way you can really dial in that sound
  • Every setting you can play with in the CAB M will change the sound and will have a chain effect as you keep on changing. Best is to start with one piece of each setting and then move to the next.
  • Get to know the microphones. Not only where to place them but each one will have a different sound response. Some of them will work well up close, others farther away. Some mics will have a tighter sound with the bass while others are boomer. Now, you may want to get to know a couple of mics well and then bring in a 2nd mice into the mix to flavor it. I can tell you the Dynbass 52 much tighter than the 20. The Kinghfall and the ribbon can get boomy at times. Don't forget some cabs have ports in the back if you want that sound.
  • For amps, use either 6L6 or TK88 or no amp for bass guitar. The other amp sims are more for guitar and sound thinner, unless if that what you want. SE vs PP amp sim does make a difference how dynamic the sound gets. Pentode vs triaode mode does also shape the sound with a tighter sound in pentode. I usually used in PP with pentode for a cleaner sound. Also, the presence knob on the PP amps can control the sound a lot. with a 6L6 PP pentode with a presence of 80-90% sound good (to me). The amp will distort more as you push it as a real amp.
  • The CAB M in the start has a few bass cabs to start. You can download multiple cabs with your licences from Two Notes. If you have the Le Bass and the Wall of Sound, you can use those cabs. I personally like the Marco NY, Fridge, Big Papa, Big Mama, AZ Ben, WGrandBLVD, Rea One, and 2Notes SBC.
  • Most of the presets they have are for guitar. The few they have for bass I never cared for. experiment.
  • Use the PC program to organize your patches and your cabs. It is much easier this way than using the pedal.
  • The pedal is pretty easy to dial in a sound. The phone amp was too complicated hard to use. The PC program works just like the phone app, but it much easier with a mouse.
  • You can use a 9 volt power supply if you need to.
  • If you have custom IR, you can use those but the microphone options are limited to what the IR has. Now, you can technically mix two different IR cabs together. I used an Eden cab and an Bassman cab from a 3rd party and mixed the sound together. It sounded quite nice than each one by themselves.
I know I put a lot here, but ask away and I should be able to respond back in a day or so.

I have a day to play tomorrow, so I’ll use this, and see what comes up. Thanks for your help!

Just downloaded the C.A.B. M+ firmware today. It's very cool. I saved 12 presets tonight. Two Notes really has some great products. This pedal and the Le Bass have made for quite the COVID-19 rig.

Bones
It’s a great combo! I also added an Effectrode La-2a tube compressor to my board! Holey Smoke!
I’ll post pics when the final piece gets here!

thanks! I would never have known there was new firmware without this post

Question for you Cab M owners regarding the onboard tuner. Can it be selected via your foot (are those two knobs also switches?) or does it require bending down and navigating menus?
I’ll answer this here as well, bend over (or kneel down if you’re my age!) push a knob to engage the tuner, twice to mute, and a third time to get back to performance mode! Not the best process, but everything else in this box makes it worth it! Or skip the tuner and get a clip on.

Great advice! Was able to dial in a great tone using the Ampeg B-15 cab. Since then, I have purchased about ten cabs to try out, just haven’t had a chance to set up patches yet. Thanks again for the help. This thing is amazing, and really easy to use.

Hi all! I've heard lots of love for this guy and it has caught my eye.

Question though, if running a pedal like a darkglass AOU that lets you use custom IRs for the cab sim, does that make one of these redundant?

Curious if its worth adding to my ampless rig...
Not sure how much control you have in the Darkglass over the cab sims, but in the Two Notes you have many parameters you can adjust (either on the pedal or in the editor) such as mic type, placement, what kind of room it’s in, etc., that all affect the overall tone of the sim. Plus you have preamp and power amp sims (both tube), a HPF, 5 band semi parametric EQ, an Exciter, a Noise Gate, and a tuner to tweak the tone even further.
All the variables sound daunting, but they are really easy to manipulate, and make for some amazing tones! I had IR’s built in to my Le Bass, but no way to tweak the tone, so I never used them. I wouldn’t be without the C.A.B.!

Super helpful. I can load any 3rd party IR into the darkglass but its contingent on hooking up my computer via micro USB. No edits possible, just loading different ones.

Definitely giving this another look. Thank you!
