Two Notes Le Bass Players Club

View attachment 1156895 That's pretty crazy man. I'd hate to travel that far to a music store so yeah I guess it's all online shopping and find the best demos you can. As for the fizz in the top end at higher gains or sounding unnatural, I run a vmt through a B7k at higher drive settings sometimes (most times med gain) and find the 410 ameritweed cab and the 810 fridge both have depth and edgey and articulate characters to them and didn't think it sounded that way but everyone is different with different flavors likes dislikes blah blah blah lol..I find between playing with the size of the cab and tweak your regular eq settings mildly gets you right in that pocket especially through my EV ZLX12P powered wedge but it also sounds great through the front end of my 2 Traynor SB115 combos. Different cabs to each combo is pretty nice too like the flexy 115 on bottom combo and stacked on top use the 212 blonde basement.. Nice warm bottom end and cutting mids. That iconoclast looks pretty cool though . Never heard of that one till now but yet to check out a video. I'll def check it out though.. The torpedo appears to be the cats ass though and would love to try one but a lil rich for my blood atm.. I'm glad it worked out for you too.. especially you circumstances. Nothing worse than ordering a pedal , receiving it and not likeing it at all so I totally get it..

We have some shops here, a couple of good ones but none stock Digitech or Neunaber although you can find most of the other major brands locally (within 30km). I guess my difference is I bought mine mostly to play direct into headphones or a PA desk, so I end up with no speakers to roll off the top end. For the sound I like its a fine line between rolling of the top end enough that drive sounds good but keeping it bright enough that playing clean funky bass also sounds good. I wasn't expecting to find one setting that did both so I was quite supprised when I did

Right on that's cool..Just checked out your iconoclast and that looks pretty sweet.. nice you can hook to computer and set the curves but not ir based but technically you could draw the same curve from say a torpedo ir curve with similar results..cool!

My Le Bass is on his way to my home, I should get it on wednesday. I can't wait anymore to shape my tone with this beast !
Anyone tried it with the "new" Digitech Cabdry VR? Less features than the Torpedo, but also half of the price.

I have it on my board with the Cabdry VR; haven't heard it in a live setting yet, or through the amp... but it sounds pretty damn awesome through the headphone out.

CLEAN TONE - Its a lot more clear and present than the Le Bass cabsim (too dark and mushy for me) but still works really well to roll off those annoying clingy highs

DISTORTED/OVERDRIVEN TONE - This is by far the best overdriven tone i've had, to my ears.. I'm running a Swollen pickle before the Le bass, Fuzz + overdrive stacked sounds just monstrous.

I like the idea of the Cabdry. My issue is that I need the XLR DR for my primary gig. Do you think you can use the Cabdry before the leBass?

I think if you put it in the effects loop it would work how it's supposed too..I believe the instructions say cabdryvr after drive and preamp pedals so before le bass may not work so well.

Hi all, what way are most people connecting the LeBass into their rigs.

Are you going direct into the instrument input on the amp as if it was a normal stompbox or into your amp's fx loop or into the amp's fx loop return.

I seem to be struggling and almost fighting with it to get a good tone. I know most will be shocked to hear that, right.

I contacted TwoNotes and was told that it was not meant to be used like a normal pedal and that I had too many preamps in series and that I should run my bass in passive mode and connect to my amp's fx return to bypass the amp's preamp section.

I would really value your thoughts and opinions on this.

Thanks,
Declan.

No such thing as too many preamps :-P its better if you leave most of them flat though. I found running either into the front of my Mark Bass Little Mark III or the fx return the drive didn't sound good with drive, some of the more hifi amps don't work well for drive. I ended up running into the amp with the cabsim on, but in general I decided that was also too dark for my use case, so now I run Le Bass -> Neunaber Icoonoclast (cab sim) -> front of amp. I then compensate for it a little bit on the eq on the front of the amp. But given I have young kids 90% of the time when I play I go direct to a mixing desk without the amp while they sleep.

Thanks for the responses.

My understanding is that it can be used in many ways, and in its plainest form; as a simple pedal between the instrument and the amp's instrument input.

To quote the support contact at Two Notes:
"So you are connecting your bass into the Le Bass, and the Le Bass into your amp ? This means that you are using 3 pre-amps in a row, and they are not meant to be used like this."

Hence my confusion and why I am asking here on the forum to see what others are experiencing.

Combo: Hartke HD75
Bass 1: Sire Marcus Miller M7 (5 String) (18v on board pre-amp) (active/passive toggle)
Bass 2: Epiphone EBM-4 (Upgraded with EMG PJX pickups, EMG BTS Preamp, 18V configuration) (active only)

I have several other pedals on my board, however I have separated the LeBass off the board for now until I can conclude this matter, so that it can be tested standalone.

I am just under-whelmed with the overdrive results I am getting and I want to make sure that 1) the unit I have is in fact operating correctly (ie no tube issues, etc) and 2) that I am setting it correctly.

I have noted several clips on YouTube, some are by members of this forum, and no matter what I do I can never reproduce any of the tones that they achieve. For example, one such video by Roey Haviv, titled Two Notes Le Bass preamp, has some really awesome tones. I have tried many many times to dial in what his Cold Fusion Tone (as at 2:33 in the clip). My tone just ends up sounding very flat and lifeless and seems way too clean.

In fact I have a really old Orion Distortion pedal (circa. 1990) and it can produce much more overdriven tones, so surely a €300 pedal can outperform a €50 pedal, tonally.

I would really appreciate if someone could use the sample settings that I have attached and to record and share a short MP3 clip (recorded using a smartphone for example) so that I can listen and compare what others are achieving with the same settings.

The sample settings are from the following article and it has a sound clip also, see sound clip #3. This is the tone I am wanting to achieve.

Bass OD/DI/Preamp Pedal Roundup | Premier Guitar

So far I have been only testing it with my 5 string bass in passive mode and with both pickups selected as single coil, with my combo set totally flat.

Not sure why things are not working out for me with this. I would really appreciate and value the forum's input, thoughts and experiences on this.

Thanks,
Declan.

Hey Declan.
First, to contradict what Two Notes said, I see nothing wrong with going through 3 preamps (bass, floor, head). You will be going through a fourth at The mixing desk, possibly a fifth in certain situations.

That said, from the picture you posted, channel B level was very low (and gain very high), try starting at noon and use the "fusion" knob to blend them (set a lower gain at your amp since this will hit it harder).

There's a possibility that your unite isn't good, that's a possibility with any product but it also might be fine, this preamp isn't the simplest.

Thanks for the quick response. I must say your tones in the YouTube videos are awesome, in fact, it's one of the reasons I bought the LeBass in the first place.

I will give that a go. In this scenario the LeBass will likely need to be always on instead of being an occasionally used stompbox because the overall volume will be dictated by the input to the combo. My combo just has a volume control, no separate gain control.

It's direction and advice like this that I think I need. I will be really happy if it's just how I am setting it and that the unit is functioning correctly. It certainly isn't the easiest piece of kit to tweak.

Thanks, Declan.

I'm happy it works.
And yes, fusion mode is a "set it and forget it" thing for me too, at least until I get a torpedo CAB, where I can midi sync and balance the channel volumes.

Bit late to the punch, but I was running my Le Bass into the effects return of my previous amp. It sounded fine, but I found that I had to crank the volume on either the pedal or the amp (SWR 550x for those wondering) in order to get it loud enough. Too much would tend to cause clipping as well. Running it into the front of the amp solved the volume problem, but degraded the tone.

My solution was to just buy a more transparent amplifier and run the Le Bass into the front. Went with a Quilter Bass Block 800, results were exactly what I wanted.

It certainly sounds better if you let it be a preamp and boost your signal a bit, I run it always on when I want it to have a clean sound I use Channel A
