Two Notes Le Bass Players Club

Nothing worse than accidentally engaging the cab sim button and not being able to figure out why your tone is so muddy and lacking definition when you're playing. I was a set and a half in before I suddenly realized it wasn't the lackluster sound system we were playing through that was causing the problem.

A quick push of a button and I sounded fantastic again. My partner is now calling the cab sim button the "ass" button, as in "it makes my bass sound like ass." drool

I actually like it. You need to adjust your EQ accordingly. Here's what my bass sounds like going through the Le Bass with the cab sim on.

I liked it so much I bought the Torpedo C.A.B. which is amazing. Makes your bass sound so smooth, round, and tight. No shrill top end or clank. Love it!

Glad it works for you, I spent quite a bit of time trying to EQ it and couldn't get anything approximating what I would consider decent tone. I ran live sound professionally for about 10 years, so I do actually have at least a glimmer of an idea of what I'm doing. I'll be taping off that button to prevent it getting engaged again.

One of the reasons why Tech21 Sans Amp pedals and I have never gotten along is because you can't turn off that speaker sim. I like the Bass Fly Rig for what it is, but otherwise I've not gotten along well with their pedals because they were too "scoopy" and the top end was so shrill.

Two Notes was kind enough to allow you to turn it on or off, which is nice. I tried a Darkglass Vintage Ultra and hated the cab sim on that pedal. Ended up returning it.

Yes, I agree that it's nice that it can be turned on and off. Obviously it will work for some folks and not others.

Hey guys i just bought a demo 2 note lebass pream, it came with an a 12v AC adapter and it works good even though the preamp is 12v DC 500mA, i got the caline 5 power it shows that there's a high current 500mA output, it doesn't shows if is a 9v or 12v, i plugged it into the next output a 12v 100mA but 5 second later it cuts off because the preamp is sucking more power, can I still used that output if it is a 9v 500mA? I don't want to mess up the pedal..

your adapter will output 12v AC, the pedal won't work correctly with 9v it requires the higher voltage and current to internally convert to a much higher voltage to run the valve correctly

I run an original VT Bass that I picked up second hand in front of my Le Bass, you can still turn off the cabsim on that.

I run mine into a DSM Omnicabsim which works well for me.

The Omnicabsim is also useful to tame the harsh tweeter on my combo. The tweeter makes some of my distortion/overdrive tones sound unpleasant.

Yeah I find the same, I run a cabsim into the front of my amp when I use the amp, my loop switcher is setup to enable it for sounds with drive but to leave it off when i'm playing clean.

Very promising pedal, I have to say. Can't remember reading any bad reviews about it. Still, I have some things to clarify. How does this pedal handle the more vintage, crunchy sounds? Think of Geddy Lee/Chris Squire. Both of them run two-amp rigs, one for clean and one for dirty. My idea was that the cold fusion mode does something similar. With some EQing I could make channel A bring the bass- low mid frequencies clean, while using channel B for the mid/treble frequencies distorted. Any thoughts on this setup?

I'm planning to use it with an amp. My signal chain would be Squier Jazz - Two Notes Le Bass - Hartke HA2500 - Hartke 115TP.
Any ideas if I could make it work?
Hi i agree with the two amps for the Chris squire sound (which I am searching for my self)your thoughts with the clean chanel I think would work, but the B Chanel

I have a couple of questions for the people who is this

I have an extended range violin which has plenty bass range and hence was considering buying le bass

Seeing as I don't have another pre I can't leave this on bypass. So, how clean is the input A option? Is it close to bypass clean? Clean enough to play classical?

Also anyone know the frequencies of the bass and treble EQs?

Lastly the effects send and return loop, am I correcting in assuming that all of the functions except cabsim go to the send jack?

A is super clean on electric bass. It's definitely not transparent, as there's a noticeable roll-off of the highs with everything set flat (remember the EQ on the A is boost only), but you can easily EQ it back in. Couldn't say how it'll respond to violin but as long as you don't crank the gain it should be clean enough.

The manual has nothing about the frequencies on the bass/treble, sadly.

Cabsim is on the DI only, the effects send is post-everything else.

I actually like leaving the A channel really clean and bassy so the blue fusion has the perfect balance with the B channel giving it some bite and only a glimpse of real dirt. It is the cold fusion I am actually looking to OD itself, as I tend to use the A-B as my standard tone (A for really low-key Indie or Jazz and B for when I punch it full metal, usually with full distortion as well). The Hot Wax can either give it a bit more body or go full Metal Zone, but I am looking for something in the "dirt but not filth" area.

(And at the settings I have been using, I don't find the hot fusion mode helpful for the desired dirt. To get that sound perfect I end up losing the sound of the cold fusion I have found a pocket in.)

Maybe an OCD/OD Glove is the next one to try? I had someone recommend the Bass Soul Food with the overdrive-only Treble control but they don't seem to come up used around here very often.

A thought here like how it's done in the studio with two channels, But for "live" get a radial A/B box and run 1.amp / cab clean using your Eq on your amp set ( BAssy clean)add a little treble, the sound you like, then use your second amp/ cab going into the le BAss B for the desired amount of gain ( grit) and A will boost it if you want for final Eq.
now you can blend the two voicings together, and of course balance the volumes (from a distance) add a touch of reverb. that will give you an amazing Wide full sound (spacy) it's typically duel mono. I know this is more costly 2 rigs, but it does nt have to be if you shop around for second hand. It's worth it and you will,
I use a Neunaber Iconoclast instead slightly less versatile but it does the job and given I wanted to be able to have stereo for recording sometimes it was 1/4 of the total cost. I also use the 7 band EQ on the Boss MS-3 for a bit more control and so I can have different EQ settings per preset, I do find that the Le Bass doesn't have as much EQ control as other preamps but I far prefer the sound of the valve preamp.

Four presets works for my needs as the Torpedo CAB has an EQ for each preset, and it has 99 presets I believe. More than I'll ever use. The Source Audio EQ would only be used for special needs. If I'm playing a reggae type line, or need a lot of top end clank for a rock tune. When I set up the scene in the MIDI controller, I can have it engage and disengage the EQ pedal. Also, having an EQ before my preamp gives me different tones than having one after the preamp (where the Torpedo CAB lives). It also gives me an EQ should I be using an actual cab and don't want to run the emulation. If I'm playing live, I can use the EQ to correct for acoustic issues in the room.

Much of what lives on my board now is there for the 1% of the time I might need it. The other 99% I'm running a clean tone with a 4x10 cab sim. I do use the octaver function on the H9 from time to time. Phaser if I'm playing some funk stuff, so it's WAY overkill on my board. But cheaper and more compact than buying a dozen pedals I'll seldom use.
as they say cut through the mix.
Thanks for the info John
Any upright players who use this?
