I'm on a casual hunt for a 5er to leave at my friend's office/practice space. This is the perfect bass, but alas, I prefer black or green basses. I might check with him, if he wants to add a sweet bass to his backline...
BIG thanks to Berklee46 for sending me a Peavey truss rod cover. And he wouldn't even take my money! I was missing one on my Fury. But somehow during various bass adjusting and tweaking a cover found its way onto the Fury and ended up missing on the Patriot. So I put the one he sent me on the Patriot and its great! I had tried to 3D print one and it looked terrible. So happy to have the real thing. Thanks Berklee46, very much appreciated!
On the topic of Peavey truss rod covers ... Is anyone else totally annoyed by the way the covers screw on? I can never get that screw aligned. I think that's why so many older Peaveys are missing the cover. The owner got frustrated and gave up on putting the cover back on.
You can’t 3D print a truss cover that looks correct. That’s like trying to print a tort pickguard. Truss covers are three ply black/white/black cut with one or two different angled edges. I tried to make one once with no specialty tools, just tools most folks have, and a large amount of time spent getting it semi-right.
It’s easy to see why people pay $30 to get the real deal! Time is money, and they aren’t worth the time when you can still get one on eBay or Reverb.

I've made them out of thin sheet plastic (just trace another).. they took like 2 minutes with a scissors and sand paper.
The angled TSeries was the one I had to make the most.

Ive picked up my fair share that have 2 or 3 holes for the screw, I’m sure from people just trying to force it and be done lol
I would almost GUARANTEE that YOU own that bass !!!! SO friggen' cool !!! Funny how Verdine even licks his fingers like Rudy (Sarzo) does. That video is great. I always loved EW&F, and I've never seen Verdine as the frontman like he is for this video. He is SO in the pocket. It's also "funny" how People call Verdine the Black Rudy Sarzo, and vice versa.
Verdine is a freakin monster... crazy humble... somewhere on the is him playing classical upright
Biggest thing I learned by studying him was using a rest/pause to control pressure.
Hey just FYI - GC Used has a sweet P/J bass. These are AWESOME basses. Dead silent active electronics. Just switch out the funny pickguard or paint over it, or leave it cheesy for fun. If I didn't own one already, this would be on it's way to me. $224.99 !!!

When you listen closely... he is a master at dropping out and/or muting his rests.... instead of tossing tons of notes at something, he plays the "rest/break"
On Sundays, I'm about 20% of what everyone hears. It's amazing what times of quiet (in a run or verse etc) creates when we then back in intesely.
Doesn't work that well without the right gear... nuttin like rambling gramma's ribcage... then dropping out... and hitting it again.
I heard an interview that he patterned a ton of his muting technique after Theloeous Monk.

That reminded me of something I did for the first time ever, at a recent show. I’m currently in a cover band, and I’m a stickler for getting the basslines right. But, I do add my own stuff, as long as it works and it’s fun for everyone. I never know what I’m going to do until the moment hits me. I don’t remember the song. But, it was something with a little funky stank on it, as my drummer says. We came to a part where I can do a little 6 or 8 note run that matches something the drummer does, and for some reason I just muted the E string and plucked it to the rhythm. It sounded like kick drum hits. So, in essence it was a pause. I liked it so much, I continued adding pauses in tasteful spots the rest of the night.... kinda like exploring the reverse dimension or something, LOL.
