I am reminded of the Bubinga top Cirrus 5 I bought from GC. The photos were lousy...showed nothing helpful but the price was stupid low...less than $700 so I took a chance and bought it. It arrived without the advertised case. I called and they sent the original case to me...so I scored another shipping box. The bass itself was covered with dents, dings and buckle rash but almost every bit of it steamed out. Two small areas needed to be filled with sawdust and super glue. I refinished the bass, polished the hardware, replaced the tuners (gold was worn off..they actually still worked fine) installed new strings and did a complete set up and it is a magnificent bass. Not great...magnificent! It has this clear growl that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck and there isn't a better playing bass out there.
So, I have made some great scores off GC's used gear and some I returned. One return was a Foundation that had horrible ski jump in the neck and it was up for sale the next day and I know for a fact that it was not a matter of making an adjustment to make it right.
Tomorrow the bass is due to arrive. Then we can quit guessing and begin knowing. In any case, GC's return policy is my safety net if I need it.
