I bought one of these, but it wasn’t long enough to reach the truss nut on my T45
I have a mid 80s (not sure of the exact year) Foundation project bass that has the plastic chainsaw style case. My ‘83 T20 has the same. My ‘78 T40 has a big rectangular tolex case with yellowy green fur inside. Sometimes I think they just used whatever style they had on hand at the moment.
This is what I keep hearing. Some people have no issue with the Gibson style and others have problems with the length. I wonder if the production year of the bass makes a difference?

Kind of. I had to remove some of the fingerboard material (located under the truss rod cover) to get a Gibson wrench to reach on my 82 T45 neck. I have run into more reach issues with the older production. All my 84-94 Peaveys had no issues with the reach. However, my friend's 86 Foundation needed fingerboard material removed, too.
I got a bullet shaped wrench from stew Mac a few years ago that works on all my Peavey’s, but they seem to have updated their wrench design. My oldest is my 81 t-40 and it works fine on that, but ymmv of course
You are correct. Here’s a great post covering Peavey T40 cases. Mine is like the oddball one listed at the bottom.

For whatever reason, I can't help seeing a signature on a bass as defacing it.
I have a first year 1990 Yamaha Attitude Custom which they made very few of, and the body is painted Metallic Rose which is the color you never see.
When I got it a couple of years ago, it had Billy Sheehan's signature in black Sharpie on the upper horn in front, it had been there almost 20 years, and black Sharpie stains the clear coat over time.
I couldn't stand it, had to get it off, it took an hour or two of automotive rubbing compound to remove the shadow...now it's just a great bass without any (additional perceived) collector value ..and I like it better this way.

I wouldn't mind certain players signing my bass, but I wouldnt want it on the body. If Stu Hamm or Les Claypool signed the headstock, I would be happy. It would make more sense on a bass that they were known for playing....
This guy showed up on GC's website this morning. I really don't play 4 string electric bass much but I still bought it. It is most unique to see decent photos for a used bass on GC's website and this one looks to be in great shape. Comes with the case.
I believe somebody bought it a week or two ago and returned it. When I first looked at it, I thought it looked in great shape too.
I do remember seeing either it or another like it a while back. We’ll know soon enough. I hope there is no problem with it but GC has a history of relisting returned gear.
Of course they’re going to relist it. It’s not like they’re relisting something used as new. You expect them to eat every returned used piece?
Of course not. What is reasonable to expect is that they would alter their description to be more accurate. There was a Cirrus 6 that had pretty bad water damage that they listed and relisted as in good condition. It was sold and returned about 4 times before someone kept it.
I recently purchased an Aguilar AG 500 head from them online and it arrived with the overdrive channel dead. I returned it to my local store and they immediately relisted it in great condition....their definition of great condition is that it functions 100% and may have some minor cosmetic blemishes. Unless they repaired the amp, which I highly doubt, they just relisted it and passed it along to the next buyer.
We'll know soon enough if I bought a lemon or a jewel. It is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. The photos look great so I remain hopeful that it is in fine condition with no real problems. I can easily deal with any electronic issues as long as the PU's are okay.
I'll report back when I know more.
Foundation S, looks to be 1989 model, w/ EMG's out there on eBay and Reverb now (no affiliation). Asking too much, imo, especially since the headstock is rather beat up. Too bad, since this is almost exactly like my first ever bass - same color, model, everything (except the EMGs).

The two used GC items I bought were in great shape, luckily, but I understand where you’re coming from. I had them shipped to a local GC so I could inspect them.
I know that at my local GC, if a guitar is totally mal-adjusted and comes back for return, the techs on staff will at least put eyes on it and try to get it in the ballpark. Not a full blown setup, but a truss tweak or hardware tightening, easy stuff like that. Even then, I think their return policy is more than fair to the buyer
The GV Bass I bought from GC's site had been bought and sold at least 3 times before I got hold of it. It had been modded with Bartolini Jazz pups and a Bartolini Preamp. It also had a horribly dead set of half wounds (ground wounds - whatever you want to call them). Anyway, I gave it a good cleaning, sorted out a couple preamp issues, shielded the control cavity and put on a fresh set of DR High Beams. It ended up being an amazing bass in very good shape beyond the mods and it actually sounds fantastic with the full Bartolini setup.
Anyway, the point is yeah GC is lazy about how they list things and I'll be you they just pull up the previous listing to repost with out any thought. Frankly the GV sounded like utter crap when I got it but I was willing to spend a little time on it where as the people that had bought it prior either couldn't or wouldn't.
So who knows what the story is with that one but with GC's return policy on things like this, why not take a flier on it?
