We can still relish in the fact that there will be those occasions where a T20 is found in a local ad for $100 and such, but we may have to just be happy knowing our basses are relative bargains, as 58kites pointed out earlier. I know that I would have never really thought I would be paying nearly $400 for a Foundation, but in the grand scheme of things, my last one was well worth it. I couldn't touch an 80s J for less than $1000-1200 unless I got really lucky.

Your right on the money.

I myself am a big G&L fan and you used to be able to get those at a steal too. Remember when you could get an L2000 dressed to the nines for $600 - $700? Those days are long gone and the same thing goes for American-made Peaveys. American-made quality in 2021 equates to more money out of pocket. Doesn't matter when it was manufactured.

I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if I sold my T-40 and T-45 for above the $600 price mark.

I used to buy T-40's for less than $200 (I thought it was the best bass in the world for under $200 bucks). I've probably had over a dozen of them. And I've given them or sold them to young church members learning to play bass in praise worship bands. I still have two of them. Once people "discovered" T-40's ... I moved to patriots and foundations (which also used to be cheap). now those are going crazy in price too. So I've moved to Fury's (which still tend to be pretty cheap). My current favorite is the minty (new old stock) Fury ... I put bill lawrence pups in it.

As other's have pointed out. These older Peaveys were at a pretty low price point, so many have been mistreated or improperly stored over the years. I've had even some T-40's that I could not get set-up right at all (neck issues). So several patriots I've found have been completely screwed up. But when you find one that plays well ... they are great!

I think Gen 2 Furys (like yours) are great P Basses, better necks than most Fenders.
Your T20 and T45 both look great, all of these basses look original stock other than the Fury pickup swap.
I agree, you need to find another Patriot to bring home. :)

I normally like everything stock. But for whatever reason … I wanted to test bill lawrence pups prior to upgrading a pricey fender. The fury was basically brand new old stock. Mint. Still packing and case candy with it. Once I got those pups installed and played it a few times. I sold the fender … kept the fury as is. It has sort of a jazz width neck which I like. And I gotta say those passive BL pups just dropped in with peavey pots and sound like an awesome accident.

With the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Fury basses having a generic split P pickup in them, I've upgraded pickups on both of mine too.
There are so many great aftermarket split P pickups available these days, my favorite is the EMG Geezer P.
The Gen 1 Fury/T20 pickup is a whole other story, I would never think to change that one.

I completely agree!!! The T-20 is great as is. I really like the foundation stock pickups. And to me the T-40/45 and cirrus needs to stay unmolested. I've heard good things about the EMG Geezer ... I had planned to purchase those as well to see how they compared with the BL. (I wasn't all that keen on the OEM Fury split P's although I still have them if I ever decide to "undo") ... so I was planning to try all kinds of PUPs ... but 1st try the BL sounded great so I haven't touched them since (ain't broke ... don't fix it) ... 1st time I played in the mix with band ... a somewhat "particular" guitar player went nuts and it became his favorite bass (I'm still not sure he knows it's a Peavey 'cuz I had a 75 P the same color combination). He usually wants me to bring an SR5.

Sorry! I guess I should have been a member since 1981? But I didn't know this club existed. I'm old ... and probably not smart enough to navigate this site/forum properly. Over the years I've gotten great info from this site from crazy smart members. I learned about compressors almost exclusively through this site ... and 30 years later finally figured out how to use one! Honestly I never knew there was so much Peavey love out there. I kind of enjoyed when they were under the radar!

The guy has both basses for sale, I contacted him and he added a picture of the correct HS. They're both in clean condition. He also has a beauty T40 up peavey vintage T 40 bass guitar and apparently more to come.

I wouldn't feel bad about buying that gold Gen 1 Fury for $500, it looks in super duper shape and the gold seems to be a rare color.
It's priced like a Player Series (Mexi) Precision and I would definitely rather have that Slant Fury.
The Gen 1 Fury and the Patriot are favorites for me.

I kept hearing all these great things about the Bill Lawrence/Wilde P46 and J45, but no personal experience with them. I had a Forum Plus with the factory EMG-esque active pickups. I just didn't like them, and I'm a huge EMG fan. Despite having a set of old, well used and well known EMGs in my parts drawer (a P and LJ) that would work perfectly in the bass, I ordered up a Wilde P45/J45L set to experiment. Dropped them in the Forum Plus (with appropriate value and taper pots for passive operation-250K linear volume with push/pull to put the P46 in parallel-250K MN no ground blend and 500K audio tone pot with .047uF cap) and instantly loved the results. One of the few times I preferred passive over active. They have clarity, but you can roll back the tone control to get old school tones. Sold the original Peavey Actives to a guy that was restoring an active Foundation S back to stock. Never missed those pickups. :)

Wow! Great looking bass. Don’t have a PJ at all in my lineup. I can only imagine that sounds great.
