U.S. Peavey Club

Picked up a blue TL-5 (revision 2, with the "better" preamp) the other day, for $500 (with original hard case). Randomly saw it on Facebook marketplace and the guy lived about a mile from my house, so I felt it was serendipitous.

The sound is pretty dang nice, considering the action is way too high for me, and the strings are very old, and a little grimy. Gonna have it worked on a bit, set up, freshly strung, etc. Any suggestions on strings for this baby to bring out it's best characteristics?!

I’ve been running the super light D’Addario nickels on mine. Kind of helps soften the top end a little and adds a touch of warmth (IME).

I am pumped about finding this bass. I don't think I have ever seen another Gen 2 5 string with the matching headstock. I'm confident that the matching headstock will make it sound way better!

Never seen the matching headstock, but those are really excellent basses. To wit:

I don't know if you can tell, but this is how low the action is on my '92 Fury.
I wasn't holding down the string, only the neck in place so I could get the right angle for the photo. ZERO fret noise on any fret !

Looks like youre not even using the neck angle adjustment!!

that metallic cobalt/metallic blue Axcelerator is my old bass (vfyd serial#) I sold back to GC and it has been going from store to store , Things I know , (1) missing truss rod cover that I kept for my other Axcelerstor ! (2) Some pots warbly but function (3) Amazing playing uniquue looking glossy fretboard wood that appears pao ferro even though these are rosewood ? (4) a few sprouted fret ends (5) may need 1 or 2 frets levelled past 12th fret (6) cracked paint down to wood near input jack .... GC's price is a bit high but if you do your own bass setups/adjustments I still feel it is a nice bass w/ fast easy playing thin neck - I sold it as I have begun liquidating my bass/guitar stash

You should see what theyve done to it. Its a mess. On second thought dont. Might be heartbreaking

Chuck - "I wasn't planning on buying a Peavey bass today."
Alcoholic - "I wasn't planning on drinking today."

That bass is SICK, Chuck !!! I love the sound of those silent singles, and yes, the matching headstock adds 10% of badass to your tone :)

HAHA !!! SO true, Rob ! I bet GC Used puts up the photos and asks how long til those guys in that nerdy Talkbass Peavey Club snatch these up ? :)

They are wonderful basses. I had one before but it got sold. I have missed it and am very fond of matching headstocks so this will be a welcome addition.
I went to look at the bass 30 minutes after it was mentioned here. Gone. Chuck is fast! Looking forward to some pics, never saw one of those with a matching headstock. Do love me some black basses with matching headstocks!

I too wonder if some of these stores and sellers wonder about our nerdy group..? A pretty fair share of the cool Peaveys end up in our grips! ;)

Just got some updated pictures of the “Stealth” Palaedium Andrew Drake is doing for me.
I got it off Reverb as a project and it was pretty beat. He repaired the hacked up fretboard from what looked like a drunken fretless conversion, and installed small mandolin frets. We went with a matte black finish instead of the original bright red.
So far so good…

Edit:
Andrew just sent a picture of the ramp he made out of black rocklite material and also finished in matte black.

Very sexy bass. When does it get the flip flop clear coat ghost flames? Does this mean you'll let one go soon?

I was the winner on the mahogany patriot body auction, and I’m so stoked to have a hog body for the patriot neck I’ve had kicking around for over a year. Fingers crossed they’re a good fit! View attachment 4392972
Nice Catch. If I had a neck I would have bid! Watched this one
