Can a T-40 produce the same sound(s) as a Fury?
Not really.
I assume you mean a split coil (P bass) Fury vs the slanted Super Ferrite/T20 type version? If so, a T40 can get a 'close enough for live Rock N Roll' approximation when using the soloed neck pickup in humbucker mode, but P emulation is not a tonality the T40 excels at. The catch is that the neck pickup on a T40 is centered around 25 7/16" from the nut, where a Fury has it's split coil centered at 28.5" from the nut (just like a P). That 3" makes a pretty big difference in the harmonic content of what the pickup is reading, as well as the pickup designs are very different, yielding somewhat different tonalities.
I did a T45 "tribute" by putting a T40 Toaster pickup in the P bass sweet spot on my old Ibanez RB630. This is exactly how a T45 is configured (as well as the G&L L1000 with a MFD humbucker). Does it get a P-ish sound? Sort of. However, the harmonic content is closer to a P vs a T40 because the pickup
is in the P spot, so it gets that more punchy, low mid thing a P bass has vs the deeper fundamental of a T40 neck pickup location. It still sounds a little different since there are two coils reading all the strings and resulting in a little phasey crosstalk, vs a P bass having only one coil reading the strings, keeping phase minimized.
The T40 really does T40 sounds the best, and can get
somewhat convincing Ric tones-it can do a better Ric emulation if you wire it to split to the neck side coils. If you rewire a T40 to split to the inside coils, it can get pretty close to a 60s J bass tonality. The factory split to the bridge side coils is pretty close to a 70s J bass thing.
