Ha! No doubt you will! Takes a lot of time to do something, screw it up and re-do it.

I've made a form to use to make a custom pickguard and will be starting on that shortly. That should slow things down nicely.

I may be too old to play before I get it done and someone can pick it up at my estate sale.

The nut on my Fury measures 1.468" wide X .125" thick. (1 15/32" X 1/8"). String spacing is .375" (3/8").

I've made nuts out of a lot of different materials and can't tell enough difference in the sound/sustain to spit at. After the string is fretted, the nut is out of the pic. Main thing about making one is to go slow when doing the final string height adjustment. When you think you can take just a hair more off, stop. I like to work with brass. It doesn't cut too fast with files so it's easier to not mess up. Brichwood Casey makes some stuff that turns brass black that works well.

If you think the nut will make a difference, it needs to be metal, like the frets, but you may only hear a slight difference, if any, on open strings.

She's coming along. Just learning a whole lot of new techniques and tools while doing the job. Have had it almost done and then messed it up and had to start again.

Learning patience more than anything.

Quick update to the Fury refinish I introduced in post #82.

This shows more red than it really is. It also seems lighter on the lower right side than it really is, but I am getting close to being done. Some touchup on the body and then it is on to a custom pickguard (found some quilted veneer.)

Doesn't seem to be a common finish. Someone here on TB has a bevy of gold Peavey's, must've taken years to accumulate them all.

It was a pretty bass. Neck really needed adjustment though. I need to start carrying a socket wrench around with me. LOL

They were not common.. couple of reasons.. I don't remember the color being offered for a long time.. this would have been a special order color.

You could get a gold cape and look all bootsy with it.

For the time, this was a spendy upgrade.. they'd want you to buy the lined case and pay for an upcharge.

I JUST sent a fretless like this to Toronto.. partially traded it toward a German graphite.

I have that same finish on my Axcelerator 4 string fretless with a 2tec. Good looking color. I don't have a pic of it by itself but here it is with its Peavey siblings. My Axcelerator six is front row far left.

No, failed BEAD conversion. Turns out the graphlon nuts do not hold well over time and they become fragile. I was filing when I made a tiny bad move and it was broken.

I may have to get a blank and grind it to dimension.

What material do you guys recommend?

This is the reason I don't blindly post how tos (on opening a nut, trussrods etc) and often times request a long PM dialogue... is to factor out some of these error issues.
