I find the preamp in my Dynas to have a higher noise floor than preamps from my newer basses. Not out the of ordinary for a 35 year old preamp. I'm sure a few caps and resistors swapped out would help quiet the noise, but it's not bad. I almost never boost, especially the highs.
Another thing I find is that those preamps eat batteries much faster than other preamps. Anybody else finding that, too?
I usually have to swap out the super drained 9V in these Dyna preamps every 7-9 months, vs all my other preamps, that get new batteries every year, though most of them can go 2-3 years easily without requiring a battery swap.
Are you looking for those pickups for you, or do you have questions on them?
I had a set in my Forum Plus. Didn't like them. I'm also a dyed in the wool EMG lover. The Peavey 'EMGs' (for lack of a better term) were overly hot and didn't sound as good as the old standard EMG P and J (or PA/JA). I took them out and sold them to a guy here on Talkbass that was restoring a Foundation S. Turns out he didn't really care for them, either, as I think I saw a post that he was going with some other pickups or something...
Boy howdy. Right?
I know my circle of friends and players all know and respect Peavey basses a lot more now than they did 10+ years ago.
Oh well, glad I have more Peavey than I need.
