The best sounding and playing Cirrus 5 I have owned is one I bought from GC a couple of years ago for about $750 delivered. It was listed in good condition but arrived with lots of indentations and scratches in the finish....dings on the end of the headstock and that sort of wear caused by a careless player. I was able to steam out most of the dents but there were two on the back of the bass that were deep enough that I had to fill them with sawdust and super glue. I carefully sanded the body to about 1000 grit and the back of the neck was sanded to 3000 grit. I refinished the bass with Dem-Bart gun stock oil and the bass looks great. I set it up and was rewarded with a bass better than great. It plays and sounds fantastic. It is my keeper Cirrus 5 and I like it so much I bought a fretless version. They are both outstanding basses.

No, it was not a USA Cirrus scored for $200 but it was still a score in my opinion. You can spend more than $750 on a MIM Fender 4 string and it won't be half the bass my Bubinga top Cirrus is.

If you watch the GC, Ebay and Reverb ads there are still some good buys to be made. I saw a Fury for $199 the other day. It looked nice. There are also T-40's listed for well over $1000 and that is crazy IMO.

A Milly 5 for $150? Was that for just the body and neck then? :roflmao: But seriously, I feel so lucky that I found a great condition used Milly 5er for under $600 shipped in early 2021. It is now backup to my Milly 5 purchased new from Sam Ash Clearwater, FL winter of '00/'01 from . Obviously the secret is out about USA Peavey and prices are reflecting that on many models.

It looks to be a pretty cool preamp. I like where the frequency centers lie. 500hz is my favorite mid frequency on the bass--it can punch/focus when boosted or sound deep and dubby when cut. I tend to modify my onboard preamps to get the mid center frequency as close to 500K as possible.
Plus, the 2.8K treble control is pretty spiky or smooth depending on boost or cut. It's boost effect (doesn't take much) is definatly heard on full range cabs/direct, but also on old school 15" cabs with no horn/tweeter. I have a couple basses where I tuned the treble control to 3-3.5Khz. It's also a desired frequency point for me, too. It helps to keep the frequency low to emulate a passive tone control when rolled off, too.
The bass control at 70Hz is also very useful. I rarely touch the bass control, but panning to the bridge pickup and boosting around that frequency is great for a tonality that is full, supportive, yet also focused in the mix.
I know Darkglass makes nice stuff, too. So there's no gamble there. Price is right where pretty much every decent preamp sits.

Heads up.
GC has a beautiful blue Dyna with black hardware that looks to be in fantastic condition listed for $449.
All original parts and the back cover still has the plastic on it after 35 years.

I know $449 would be considered priced high compared to what some of us have stolen Peavey basses for in the past decade, but in any other thread about any other 80's USA made active bass with all the original parts would be an INSANE DEAL.

I must reduce my bass count to something less than it is now so I am going to resist buying this bass for an hour or two, but I have the cash sitting here burning a hole through the bottom of my play money drawer....and it's driving me crazy. :woot:

Speaking of Cirri. Does anyone have an idea of the original pricing on the USA ones? I seem to remember in the 1K-1.2k range...but could be wrong.

I'm wondering if they have exceeded the original new pricing now.
