Agree with your assessment. If you include MIJ Fenders, there are plenty with a similar neck profile.
There is nothing wrong with the trapezoidal bridge, it's built like a tank and looks cool too...
but if you don't want to shim or use the micro-tilt, the brass Wilkinson saddles are a good fit that allows for nice low action (for me).
My ash Gen 1 is very nice but the neck is from a 1987 Fury (maybe why the Wilkinson saddles are a better fit).
My knobs are tiger-wood, pickguard is custom, and the brass saddles, so it's a loooong way from stock.
I must admit, the one in that ad gave me a boner!

Is your '62 blue custom fury (Nice bass!) the same color as the one in the ad?
I don't think $450 shipped is too bad...killer instrument, and no taxes/fees...someone should get it!

I bought it the way you see it in the pics except there was no pickup.
The original pickup died and the owner pulled it out and didn't replace it.
I didn't pay much for the bass.

I get PMs asking about similar vibe instruments.
The 80's Jazz Bass Specials which are really a PJ bass with P body have a 1.5 inch nut width and slim profile neck, also P Bass Specials and Boxer basses have the Jazz width neck. The early 80's JV and SQ series have a slightly wider neck but still a very comfortable thin profile. These will all have the 34 scale neck. Later MIJ P's come in medium and full scale so you need to be sure what you are buying.
I own a fretless JB Special and it's as close as possible to a Fury neck of anything I've seen. I also own a Squier SQ series P which has a wonderful comfortable thin neck. Also, these MIJ bases were not boat anchors and build quality is excellent.

Duff McKagan played a Japanese Jazz Bass Special PJ, I think. I'm sure he had a lot to do with the prices of those basses going way up in the used market.
Last year I put together a Fender P bass with a mahogany body I bought from Craigslist and then bought a new Player Series Jazz Bass neck to complete it.
The Player Series Jazz neck was very nicely made but not even close to the feel of my Peaveys or my Guild Pilot.
The biggest "No Go" for me was that the fretboard did not have the nicely rolled edges so just felt not nearly as nice.
Sweet looking red Fury here in PDX for $225, I'd buy it but I need zero more basses...

I have a cousin who's house looks like that. Hes a total neat freak.
1st, stop hoarding bass guitars !!
Then sell, throw out or donate "stuff" that you don't need or no longer use , I've recently started my purge and already see a difference in my living spaces since lots of clutter is gone , Made more room when the local vinyl store gave me a large sum of cash for my vinyl , cd & music dvd collection , The real keys are declutter & put things back in place after you use them , If I can do it anyone can .... That's all I got --- ...Now back to the Peavey forum .......

There was a Grind for $349 that sold and it MIGHT have been a super hen's teeth rare USA version. Also, a Forum sold for $224. Damn !
