My 91 Dyna 5 really does overstep the ability of SFs to pick up the outside strings. The G is a little weak on the bridge pickup, but the neck pickup makes up for it. It took some manipulation of the adjustable bridge saddles on the 3D5 to try to find a compromise of even, centered string spacing while both the G & B get read by the bridge pickup. Could not get it all the way I liked, and finally acquiesced with just having the G be weak on the bridge PU.
One of those rare SF Foundy 5s popped up after I got the Dyna 5, and in a sense, the Dyna 5 in passive mode is effectively just that. I can see how quickly Peavey had to come up with a wider pickup for 5ers, especially after learning that the ultra narrow spacing (16.5mm) with the narrow nut wasn't quite what players liked. Those first Ibanez 5 strings (the RB885 I think..?) are also very narrowly spaced. I prefer 18.5-19mm spacing on my 5ers, but did eventually get used to the Musicman 17.5-18mm. The 16.5mm still gives me a little problem, but that SF tone with the 3 band preamp and the comfy 1.75" nut wide/thin neck profile of those Peaveys does make me overlook the spacing.

Funny thing is that Peavey calls them a torsion rod
This baby shows up tomorrow. My second Gen 1 fury. Didn't need it but I love the color and it was only 349, which is pretty good for vintage 80's Peavey.
Look's like plans are slightly changing on the mods. Currently I have my sunburst '87 Fury in the shop getting fitted with its double dark indian rosewood neck and a reversed Lane Poor P and Lane Poor Legacy MM.
That bass will be named Dómur ("Judgement" in Old Norse).I decided to, instead of putting Dingwall pickups in it, mod the ash '84 Patriot with three SFs (one in the RicRiot position, one in the Patriot position, and one in the Foundation bridge position) and a 6-way switch...naming this one the StratRiot (the neck on this one is a 32" scale Warmoth wenge neck/ebony board with ash cap on the headstock):

I recently acquired an '89 Dyna-bass body with the finish stripped for short money, specifically for the SF pickups. I'm thinking of using this body for my "Cthulu" bass instead of the stripped '92 Fury bass body I had earmarked. SF in the RicRiot position, Blade T40 pickup in roughly the Foundation neck and Patriot sweet spot, and an SF in the Foundation bridge position with an amazing paint job and crazy switching (I need to gently remove the preamp). Type of 32" Warmoth neck TBD (I used the StratRiot neck on this just to illustrate the vision):

I'm thinking of taking the tort pickguard and GZR pickup out of the bass that will become Stormbringer and put it on the '92 Fury body once finished (thinking of doing a Pino Palladino P-Bass Fiesta Red thing but still TBD...I could go for Shoreline Gold too...I'm not sure...open to suggestions).

Should I pull the trigger? Peavey Foundation 2000. I understand the older models may have better pickups. I haven't seen this in person but from the pics look like it's in good condition. Anything I should look for with this particular model.? Asking $300 w/case. As always advice good or bad appreciated.
