Man, that's a GOOD question.
Currently I do not own a gen 2, but I'd say if I was asked to bring one to a session, it would have to be Gen 2 for the buttery smooth sound that sits in the mix so well. It does Earth, Wind, and Fire kind of stuff so well.
If I was doing a RUSH song, no question gen 1 with those Super Ferrites.

That's not entirely accurate. I have one of the "transition" era Foundation 5s with SF pickups. It's sort of a hybrid. Newer body shape, smaller neck, and the "we broke the mold, let's do something else" super ferrite pickups that just say PEAVEY on them in the lower right corner.

I have never seen one. I do recall that the Gen 1 Dyna 5 I played had very close string spacing and the SF's really needed to be wider to pick up that 5th string. I was unaware they ever made a Gen 1 Foundation. Sure would like to see a photo of that one.

This seller has some nice Peavey up for sale. Theres a Gen 2 (I think?) Fury and a Gen 2 Foundation 4 maple on black that I really dont need. Millennium 4, G Bass.... someone is cleaning out a collection.

Yeah, it's pretty nice. I'm not as keen on the finish vs other finishes though. If that G-Bass was the green sparkle, I would probably have to try to get it

This is a Foundation 5 w/SF pups. Rattle can refin by the previous owner. Seller told me it was a '93 but the serial number seems to be '94. Gen 1, Gen 2, Transition era? I dunno but it plays easy and sounds wicked.

Crazy enough, I did a lefty conversion on one of these for a guy earlier in the year, was the first one I’d seen.

There were a lot of different “transitional” changes between 90 and 95, especially apparent in the foundation and fury (and predator on the 6 string side.) Changes in headstock shape, hardware, pots/jack, logo style/size/placement, and of course the move to a fender style truss rod adjustment. I’ve always found it a bit reductive to try to call stuff gen 1 or 2 or 3, and ignores a lot of killer instruments in those early 90s years, and the minutia that makes them interesting.
