U.S. Peavey Club

I tried those with my other Foundation and used the brass saddles from a Wilkinson bridge I got off of Amazon and had a strange ring on the e string. This bass was in almost mint condition when I got it and someone installed some hardware store brass inserts in the neck and they were pulling out of the neck and two of them were completely driven in almost to the fretboard. It was a pain to get them out! The plastic is still on the back control plate still and there are virtually no marks on the body and the frets have almost zero wear. I was so impressed with the tone at rehearsal with my punk band that this is definitely going to be a keeper. This is the last one in my massive collection of USA Peavey basses and one of the best playing ones in my collection. The pickups sound amazing, not exactly sure what they are but reminds me of Dimarzio pickups? Definitely punchy and very hot! Anyone know what they put in these?

IIRC the pups (with the exposed pole pieces) on the Foundation S were Dimarzio clones made by Schaller for Peavey back in the day. I'm sure someone more in the know will chime in.

I was going to ask about those P/j pickups. You can tell they are ceramic by the grub screws. Wondering if Peavey stayed with SF winding. Just finished 10 sets of Ceramic based exposed blades 8 sets of SF P bass and 4 sets for our 10k wind. Two sets of the 10k bobbins are going up as blems as the plating on the blades did not come out perfect. Should have the SF P basses ready in a few days. These can be ordered with matching J

last night I finally got to installing your T-Bird Special 916 pickup "with Neo for extra punch you in the face".
It's sounds better than the one I had from the guy in Taiwan, and his sounded like a good Thunderbird pickup to me.
Yours sounds like a good Thunderbird pickup but is richer, thicker (for lack of the proper technical term).
Really nice choices you made in building it.

I believe Matt can pretty much make whatever flavor of T-Bird pickup you want.
I bought a Chinabucker T-Bird pickup after the folks over in our massive Thunderbird Bass thread said it was good, and it is.
I sent it to Matt to take apart and check it out and he decided to make something better and sent it to me to check out.
I have been delinquent in checking it out for months for a number of reasons (because it doesn't take much to derail me these days).
Anyway, installed it in my Peavey '92 FuryBird last night and it sounds very good.
I like a number of different pickups in the P position.... various aftermarket split P's, a Duncan Stinger Stacked 51P, the Peavey T20/Slant Fury SF pickup, the Peavey T45 humbucker.
This pickup can hang with any of those and after some time I might find out that it is better than some.
It makes me curious about what he has done with some of his other designs.

The issue with the Chinabuckers, and the Epi 760 Probuckers for that matter, that I have is that at least to my ear, the bottom end sounds thin. If the added neo adds some “umph,” that’ll be huge.
