In 1987 at the tender age of 15 my parents bought me my first bass, a Peavey Patriot. My mom and I knew nothing about basses (she played acoustic guitar) so we sorta guessed and bought one we liked the look of. After 2 years or so the neck warped beyond repair and I moved on to other basses. Haven't given it much thought since.
A couple weeks ago I was browsing the classifieds here and what do I run across -- a 1987 Peavey Patriot bass in really good condition for a reasonable price. Same color as my old one. Hemmed and hawed for a few days, and then decided what the hell, I can always mount it on the wall as a decoration.
The day it came in, I was playing at a jazz jam and had to bring it along. Was surprised that it's actually a really nice bass, I like the sound and the way it plays. Mom and I did good back then, and I'll play this one happily now.

Me in 1987. Bass is same color as my "new" one, just an artifact of an old photo.

And next to my Spector on another gig.
