U.S. Peavey Club

I just got this last week , very nice bass . I've had three other Millenniums and this one is just as great as the other three were . I don't need a number but I thought I should post it here . Awesome basses .

Rick-

Those pickups are from '93 or early '94. The basses were a transition to the later VFL style Foundations. The pickup is identical in size to Superferrites and there is a long running dispute on whether they are the same. My take is they are similar if not identical. The headstocks on those basses were also unique. They are much larger than '92 models, and the underside doesn't have the sharp cut of the late '94 model. They are less common, but I wouldn't call them rare. There is a red four string at the local Sam Ash and a white four-string about three feet from me now. I have never seen a purple '90's Foundation, so that was either a special order or a refin. Either way, it's pretty cool.

Thanks for that info bassman, and I agree this appears to be a somewhat unique Peavey. I can tell you the only downside is that the larger headstock causes some serious neck dive, but this thing sounds great, very similar to the 4 string I have with SF's.

The maple necks must be much more common - as you may have seen from my photo above, every Peavey bass I have found a great deal on all have them.

Also, the black 5 string in the photo with the VFLs sounds great with roundwounds. It appears to be late 90's maybe, but the position of the bridge pick up is much closer to the bridge than previous years - it really barks! I snagged it for $75. I think I got a deal on that one.

Thanks again!

I just found this and thought I'd share. I'm not buying this one so its up for grabs !
Fuzzy picture, looks like S/F pick ups

I've only owned about 12 Peavey basses over the past 35 years... but I've never seen pickups like those. Purple is a seldom seen Peavey bass color already... plus you've got some equally unique pickups in it.

Here is hopefully the definitive word from an engineer who was at Peavey during the time when they transitioned away from the Super Ferrites.

I sent him the pick of my purple Foundation with the mystery pickups and here was his reply yesterday:

Yes, they are super Ferrites. All we did was take off all the printing and left the Peavey logo. Too much to fit on cover. But, inside they are the original super ferrite design.

Well Mike,
Now we have some photo's of the pickups I ask you about recently. I don't know if this will make any difference, but maybe you'll be able to have a more precise idea of exactly which one's they are.
Thanks,
Aubrey<<
