I found D'addario Chromes to be a good "all around" flats sound, mellow without cutting out too much of the frequency band; whereas GHS Precision had more of the "old school" thump I craved. I also used Rotosound flats for a while because it was the only way I could get that Roger Waters P-bass tone, though to me they seemed to lower my output some... perhaps the material they are made of.

i currently have Roto 77's on my defretted foundation ... sound great, nice and thumpy like an upright, but the tension is a killer. the "saw bass" preset on guitar rig with this setup is dead on to Yauch's tone on Gratitude ...

The intended use was to be able to have a pseudo on-board crossover.

The cool studio use could be to add chorus only to a few strings... compress the rest etc.

I've always used an outboard crossover array when this was warranted.

Sound Clips -- Millenium Plus

Someone a while back was looking or naked Millenium Plus sound clips.

I was hired to do a 1 take studio demo... they wanted a squash compressorish sound... got it directly from the bass.

IF someone is interested I have approval to send out ... pm me and I can drop box it to you etc.

Awesome! I had a red one just like that and it was such a great bass. I wish I had had the room to keep it (and several other Peaveys that I've sold).

Would love to know what year my T-40 is...love this bass. As a kid my bass teacher played one just like it so when I saw this one hanging in a GC for about $100 (this was about 7 years ago, before prices started skyrocketing) I had to have it!
Could I please have a number?

Thanks Neal! looks like my T-40 is an '88. were there different models for T-40? I saw a pic of one on TB that had a "gut-cut" on the back but mine is flat...what other differences were there between years/models? (just curious) Thanks.

There were only a few revisions as the thrust was toward foundation

I'm not sure they were still making T40s in '88. I can't tell from the pic, does it have the rail pole pieces on the pups or is it the "toaster" style? If there are no visible pole pieces and no tummy cut, I'd say more like '78, the first year of production.

There are no visible poles on the pups...I like the term " toaster" style! No cut on the back. I'm out of town for a few days but when I get home I will post my serial number. Maybe I read it wrong?

The T-40 was made from 1977-1987. You'll find several threads on the web by owners of '87 T-40's equipped w/ 'blade' pickups.

The T-40's are both in excellent shape ,T-45 has been gigged hard,but not by me.

I have a Max 110 bass amp that sits at the end of my couch and is almost like one of my pets. It is a nice small amp that has a little growl and a little footprint and less neighbor problems.

I really like some of the tone out, but I can't get past 12 o'clock before it clipps real bad. I think that is caused by the real hot signal coming out of my active Ibanez SRX.

I have hopes of upgrading both soon.
